Aboitiz Foundation, DepEd expand AuroraPH initiative
by CEDTyClea · BusinessWorld OnlineABOITIZ FOUNDATION, Inc. is scaling up its long-term partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) to address the infrastructure gaps in remote areas through its flagship AuroraPH initiative, which aims to provide renewable energy and satellite internet connectivity to a total of 300 schools nationwide.
“By bringing solar power and connectivity to last-mile schools, AuroraPH enables students and teachers to access digital learning resources, strengthens educational delivery, and expands opportunities for communities that have long remained disconnected from essential services,” Aboitiz Foundation said in a post on its website on Monday.
Currently, the AuroraPH program has 84 schools in the pipeline for energization and connectivity as it works toward its long-term goal of reaching 300 schools nationwide.
AuroraPH is the foundation’s flagship education initiative which provides solar energy and internet connectivity to schools identified by DepEd as last-mile, or those that are geographically isolated with limited access to reliable electricity and digital tools.
Through the installment of solar power systems and satellite internet, Aboitiz Foundation aims to enable these schools to utilize digital learning resources and strengthen overall education delivery in underserved regions.
The program is delivered in partnership with Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd, Starlink Internet Services Philippines, Inc., and GivePower Foundation.
In Puerto Princesa, Palawan, four schools powered with renewable energy and internet services were turned over by Aboitiz Foundation as part of AuroraPH’s program.
As part of the turnover, the foundation and its partner City Savings Bank provided flat-screen televisions to these schools to enhance the digital classroom experience. — Juliana Chloe A. Gonzales
