Miley Cyrus Ends a 13-Year Wait for a Billboard 200 No. 1 With ‘Bass Persuades’

Miley Cyrus, now billed simply as Miley, is back at the top of the Billboard 200 for the first time in more than a decade as Bass Persuades debuts at No. 1 on the chart dated October 3. The album earned 61,000 equivalent album units in the US during the week ending September 24, per Luminate. It gives Miley her sixth No. 1 and her 16th top 10 album overall.

Traditional album sales made up 47,000 of the album’s units, enough to top the Top Album Sales chart as well, while SEA units added 14,000, the equivalent of 14.22 million on-demand official streams. TEA units contributed only a negligible amount. The sales figure got a clear boost from the variety of formats on offer: 16 vinyl variants and nine CD versions, each with one edition carrying a bonus track, plus six download editions (most with bonus material) and a cassette.

The rollout moved quickly. Miley announced Bass Persuades on September 1 and shared its title track as the lead single two days later. That song entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 35 on the chart dated September 19, becoming her 24th top 40 hit. The album arrived on September 18, only a little over a year after Something Beautiful, which debuted and peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 dated June 14, 2025.

Her previous chart-topper came in October 2013 with Bangerz. Her tally of six No. 1s and 16 top 10s spans releases billed as both Miley and Miley Cyrus, and it also counts her soundtrack albums recorded as Disney’s Hannah Montana.

The long gap puts Miley in company that keeps growing this year. She’s the third act in 2026 to return to No. 1 after waiting at least a decade. Bruno Mars got there first on the March 14 chart, debuting The Romantic 13 years after Unorthodox Jukebox last took the top spot in March 2013. A$AP Rocky followed with Don’t Be Dumb, which opened at No. 1 on the chart dated January 31, just over 10 and a half years after At.Long.Last.A$AP led the list in June 2015.

The race for the top spot was close. Ella Langley‘s former No. 1 Dandelion holds at No. 2 with nearly 61,000 units, up 1%. Right behind her, Riley Green earns his first top 10 as That’s Just Me debuts at No. 3 with 60,000 units, his biggest week yet. His launch leaned more evenly on streaming. Album sales accounted for 29,000 units, a career best that ranks No. 2 on Top Album Sales. SEA units added 30,000, equal to 30.89 million on-demand official streams and good for a No. 10 start on Top Streaming Albums. TEA units contributed 1,000. On the physical side, Green offered 13 vinyl and CD variants, some with bonus tracks, along with two download editions (one with a bonus track) and a cassette.

Three former No. 1s come next. Morgan Wallen‘s I’m the Problem stays at No. 4 with 58,000 units, up 1%. Olivia Rodrigo‘s you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love slips from No. 3 to No. 5 with 55,000 units, down 8%. Noah Kahan‘s The Great Divide falls one spot to No. 6 with 46,000 units, up less than 1%.

beabadoobee also reaches the top 10 for the first time as Pylon opens at No. 7 with 35,000 units, her best week by that measure. Sales made up 25,000 of those units, another personal best, placing the album at No. 3 on Top Album Sales. SEA units added 10,000, equal to 10.79 million on-demand official streams, while TEA units were negligible. Her format lineup included 10 vinyl variants and three CDs, with signed editions in both, plus two cassettes and a download.

The bottom of the top 10 features one steep drop. Jhené Aiko‘s Westside Whimsy falls from No. 1 to No. 8 in its second week with 35,000 units, down 53%. Drake‘s former leader ICEMAN slides from No. 6 to No. 9 with nearly 35,000 units, down 2%. Kahan’s Stick Season holds at No. 10 with 34,000 units, up 3%, giving him two albums in the top 10.
