Diemme x Rayon Vert Turn Deadstock Tweed Into an Alpine-Ready Grappa Verde

The first collaboration between the two labels draws its fabrics from historic Alpini mountain garments and arrives in four colorways.

Diemme and Rayon Vert have unveiled the Grappa Verde, a four-piece take on Diemme’s Grappa silhouette designed for daily wear in the outdoors. Marking the first collaboration between the two, the shoe skips modern technical textiles in favor of wool tweeds pulled from Diemme’s deadstock, drawing on the fabrics once worn by the “Alpini” in the mountains.

The lineup splits into three tweed options, Olive/Sand Tweed, Green/Blue Tweed and Maroon/Cream Tweed, plus a Grey Nylon version. The tweed choice is functional as much as it is nostalgic. Its dense wool weave has served as a performance fabric for centuries, holding off wind and moisture while staying breathable, warm and durable, and it keeps its shape through long stretches in cold conditions. The design brief looks back to a time when mountain clothing earned its toughness through fiber and build quality, long before synthetic coatings took over. The Grey Nylon pair updates that idea with a modern material while aiming for the same balance of protection and comfort.

The Alpini in question are Italy’s elite mountain infantry, a corps formed in the 1870s to defend the country’s Alpine borders. Their wool-heavy kit gives the Grappa Verde both its material logic and its muted, field-ready palette.

The construction supports the upper in key areas. Italian-made suede panels reinforce high-wear zones, while the interior is lined in leather and fitted with a custom-illustrated footbed on Diemme’s standard latex base. Underfoot, a hand-applied rubber rand wraps the join between upper and sole, and a Vibram HIKER outsole provides grip and stability on uneven ground. Technical lacing hardware completes the build.

That mountain focus comes from home. Diemme was founded in 1992 and operates out of Asolo, where the Dolomites can be seen from the factory floor, a closeness that shaped the Grappa Verde’s everyday, all-conditions purpose. The campaign follows the same thread across the border. Photographed by Theodor Guelat, it takes place at a traditional Alpine cascina in Graubünden, Switzerland, near the San Bernardino Pass, which friends of the brands, Chloe and Ale, largely rebuilt themselves with support from the local community. Chloe led the architectural direction, and Ale, a sound engineer, designed and built an audio system into the structure of the house. Their hands-on approach to reviving an old building parallels the shoe’s own story of turning overlooked tweeds into its main material.
