Advanced suspension tech and a bespoke soundscape transition the performance SUV into the EV era without sacrificing off-road capability

JLR unveiled the all-new Range Rover Sport Electric. This release represents a leap in the effort to transition the performance-oriented SUV into the electric era while maintaining traditional off-roading credentials. Built on an updated version of the Modular Longitudinal Architecture Flex (MLA-Flex) platform, the SUV draws power from a 118.5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and an 800-volt electric system. Dual electric motors churn out 542 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. When drivers engage Dynamic Launch Control, the EV accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 4.5 seconds. By matching the acceleration of the supercharged V8 model, the electric variant proves that abandoning internal combustion does not mean sacrificing force.

Beyond raw speed, the Range Rover Sport Electric is tuned for extended touring with an estimated driving range of up to 373 miles, or 600 kilometers, on a single charge. High-voltage architecture allows the vehicle to support DC fast charging at speeds up to 350 kW. At peak charging capacity, the battery charges from 10 to 80 percent in 22 minutes, while a rapid 10-minute pit stop adds up to 137 miles of range. Visually, the silhouette stays true to the brand’s DNA but introduces subtle aerodynamic updates, including a modified grille design and unique alloy wheels. In the absence of a traditional exhaust note, engineers developed a dedicated soundscape for the vehicle to blur the lines between music and engineering.

By replacing an internal combustion engine with a dense battery pack, JLR altered the physical dynamics of its sporting SUV. The vehicle’s center of gravity is 2.8 inches lower than the plug-in hybrid version, and the body structure is 61 percent stiffer than the current plug-in hybrid Range Rover Sport. This stiffness transforms how the vehicle handles, working in tandem with all-wheel steering, Dynamic Air Suspension and Active Roll Control. An ultra-responsive adaptive dynamics system, featuring twin valve dampers, monitors 100 different parameters 500 times per second to control body roll and pitch. Electronic feedback creates a planted handling profile within a heavy luxury footprint.

Despite the refined street dynamics, the Range Rover Sport Electric remains off-road capable. To demonstrate its performance on slippery surfaces and steep inclines, the manufacturer tested the vehicle at open-air Carrara marble quarries in Italy. This SUV wades through up to 35.4 inches of water and tackles 45-degree inclines. When it hits the market, the vehicle will be sold in premium Dynamic HSE and Autobiography trims. Choosing the Autobiography tier provides access to Range Rover’s Bespoke commissioning service. Customer deliveries are scheduled to begin in select markets in the first quarter of 2027. The EV will not be available in the US for the 2027 model year.
