From SEED shell jackets to PERTEXT SHIELDAIR mountaineering coats, Japanese apparel brand Goldwin is known for its innovative, technical outerwear. The function-first label on Friday introduced its latest down jacket development: the 3D Box Baffle, an elevated technology that prevents the clumping and movement of down feathers with enhanced insulation, adaptability and a lightweight construction.

“Conventional baffle structure in down jackets often fails to follow body movements adequately, resulting in cold spots at the seams where the down can get compressed, allowing cold air to penetrate,” the brand explains in a blog post. Goldwin’s 3D Box Baffle technology combats this issue by implementing special tucks and darks to form baffles inside fabric, so that the down can loft and expand to maximize volume. Additionally, each 3D Box Baffle can adapt to the body’s movement and conform to its wearer without creating cold spots.

Goldwin has implemented the down tech into a selection of its garments, including the GORE-TEX WINDSTOPPER down parka, the GORE-TEX 900FP down jacket, the GORE-TEX snow range down coat and the GORE-TEX snow range down parka. The line is now available to shop on Goldwin’s webstore, with prices ranging from $1,100 USD to $1,300 USD. Take a look at the designs in the gallery above.
