The Vans Premium Classic Slip-On 98 is getting a textured seasonal update with a new “Corduroy” pack, swapping the familiar smooth upper for ribbed corduroy across two colorways. Released under the Vans Premium line, which revisits the brand’s icons with upgraded materials and refined detailing, the pair keeps the low-profile, laceless silhouette intact while giving it a softer, more tactile feel.
Corduroy wraps the entire upper, adding visible ribbing and depth to a shoe best known for its clean, flat panels. The fabric is listed as a synthetic fiber, and its raised wales give each colorway a richer, more varied tone as light catches the texture.
That variation is part of the design. According to the listing, a finishing process is applied to each pair individually, so the treatment can differ from one pair to the next and even between the left and right shoe. The result is a mass-produced sneaker with a subtly one-off character.
Comfort gets an update inside. The pair uses Vans’ SOLA foam ADC insole, made with 30% bio-based material and engineered to keep the foot from tiring over long days of wear, bringing a modern cushioning layer to a silhouette that first appeared in 1979, when it quickly found a following among Southern California’s BMX riders and skaters.
