RIMOWA and Faber-Castell have unveiled the limited-edition RIMOWA x Faber-Castell Artist Case, a collector’s piece that pairs the luggage maker’s aluminum construction with a full Polychromos drawing kit. Made in RIMOWA’s own factory in Cologne, Germany, the case reworks the brand’s travel expertise into a refined home for artist tools.
The shell carries over RIMOWA’s signature hardware. Built from anodized grooved aluminum, the case adopts the Classic collection’s high-gloss aluminum corners and TSA-approved locks, finished with a leather carry handle in Faber-Castell’s signature green. It reads as a piece of luggage shrunk down and repurposed, keeping the ridged silhouette that defines the brand’s cases.
Inside is where the collaboration earns its purpose. A two-level tray system unfolds to open up a space-saving layout, giving clean access to the contents without digging. The set includes 120 Polychromos color pencils, noted for their high pigment load and smudge-proof finish, alongside custom grooved 2B Grip graphite pencils shaped for ergonomic comfort. Rounding out the kit are a RIMOWA-branded platinum-plated sharpener and eraser, small touches that push the case toward display object as much as working tool.
The result is positioned for professional artists and enthusiasts alike, equally at home shown off in a studio or carried out into the field. It translates the language of a travel case, durable metal, secure locks, considered internal organization, into a container for drawing tools rather than clothes.
The RIMOWA x Faber-Castell Artist Case releases September 17 at RIMOWA stores worldwide and RIMOWA online, as well as Faber-Castell retail stores in Germany and their online stores in Austria, France, Germany, and Italy for $3,100 USD.
