Google Pics is coming soon to Workspace for more precise AI image generation and editing

Google has recently revealed the Google Pics for Google Workspace landing page just a few hours ago. From the description of the features, it seems that it will be a new AI image generation and editing app built into Google Workspace like Slides.

Still being tested?

The new app is powered by Nano Banana to generate images via prompt, but sets itself apart by also allowing more precise editing like selection of certain parts of the image and moving them. It is currently only available to testers for now, but Google says it will roll out in the coming months.

We have not tried it out ourselves yet but we hope the generation is also precise enough to avoid messing up the resulting edited parts. This has happened before in mobile phone apps that did AI generated photo editing as well. It would also be nice if Google Pics could also do desktop publishing like Canva but that may be asking for too much.

Still no news on exact Malaysia release dates, if it might have its own mobile app or whether this might cause an increase in Google Workspace prices, but these extra features have been free usually.
