Apple adds Edge Light video effect to improve video calls on Macs

If you are using a MacBook or an iMac, you may want to make use of this feature. Apple has introduced a new video feature called Edge Light that enhances video calls by illuminating your face in low-light environments. The effect works like a virtual fill-light, helping users look clearer and more vibrant on screen when ambient lighting is dim, which is similar to the effect of a ring light.

How Edge Light Works

Edge Light is designed for situations where the environment doesn’t provide enough light for a video call. When enabled, the effect brightens and softens facial lighting by generating a subtle glow along the borders of the display. This keeps the focus on your face while maintaining visibility of shared content or other windows on screen.

The feature automatically adjusts when a video call starts, and allows users to fine-tune brightness and colour temperature so it feels natural and flattering. It’s available on Mac models with Apple silicon running macOS Tahoe 26.2 or later, and can also work with external cameras through Apple’s Continuity Camera capability.

Try Edge Light Now

That's it, folks. Whether you’re joining a meeting from a dim home office, catching up with family at night, or recording a quick message in low light, Edge Light can enhance everyone's video conferencing experiences.

This update is part of Apple’s broader effort to continually improve macOS video calling tools and user experience. Stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
