KLIA moves its customs checks to the T1 gate

The Royal Malaysian Customs Department (RMCD) has combined checks on travellers leaving Malaysia at the departure gate of Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 (KLIA T1). So, what should you know about it?

For smoother traffic and better waiting times

For your information, this measure was implemented on 1 January 2026 to ensure a more orderly and smooth flow of passenger movement. With the implementation of the new layout, passenger waiting times will be reduced, and the flow of movement will be smoother.

In addition, this initiative supports efforts to improve the operational efficiency of KLIA T1 and strengthen security levels without compromising customs enforcement. These improvements are being implemented through close collaboration between the Ministry of Transport (MOT), JKDM, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad and the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS).

Moreover, MOT stressed that this combination does not compromise security, but rather that screening of passengers and goods continues to be strengthened through adherence to mutually agreed procedures.
