Sony confirms GTA 6 will arrive on consoles first - No known date for PC release so far

According to Bloomberg, Take-Two Interactive has confirmed the official release date for Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI) on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in advance. That said, what should you know about it?

For your information, the announcement was made by Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick. He explained that Rockstar Games always launches its major games on console platforms first because it wants to focus entirely on its “core consumer,” which is console players. The PC version will be released at a later date.

"Rockstar always starts with consoles...because we want to focus on core gamers first," Zelnick said.

According to him, expectations for GTA VI are so high that it has been described as “very daunting.” It is expected to be one of the biggest launches in the history of the video game industry.

This is not new for Rockstar Games

Rockstar's history shows a similar pattern where both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 were also launched on consoles first before the PC versions were released a few months later. This announcement is certainly disappointing for many PC gamers who have been waiting for a long time, but it is in line with Rockstar's strategy of wanting to maximise the quality of the experience on the main platforms first.

Moreover, this could be a strategy by Rockstar Games where they want to maximise profits. The PC platform is often pirated. After all, Denuvo was also successfully bypassed as soon as it was launched, for example, the game Resident Evil Requiem.
