WhatsApp can now check known and unknown device linking for scams

WhatsApp has announced a feature that checks known and unknown device linking for scams in Malaysia. If you click on a link that wants to link your device, it will show information about the user such as their number, country of origin and if the number is in your contacts or WhatsApp groups. It will then clearly state that it might be a scam, and you can then decide to continue or cancel.

Even if you know them

The new feature should already be available for Android and iOS devices in Malaysia. These days, it’s quite common for a friend or contact in one of your own WhatsApp groups to get hacked or hijacked. By warning you of the possible scam linking, it can help protect you even if it’s from a known contact.

What do you think about this feature? We’re a bit sad that it’s common enough that WhatsApp has to come out with a feature for it, but hopefully it keeps everyone safer. Share your thoughts in the comments below and stay tuned to TechNave.com
