iOS 27 will arrive with an Auto-Delete feature for conversations
Apple is expected to bring major changes to Siri through iOS 27, with a major focus on chatbot-like experiences, new privacy features, and deeper integration with Apple Intelligence. So, what should you know about it?
In a recent report by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the standalone Siri app will come with a "unique" feature that will allow chat history to be automatically deleted. You can set whether conversations are deleted after 30 days, one year, or indefinitely, depending on their preferences, similar to the settings available in the Messages app.
While this new Series is expected to bring major changes, it will likely launch with a beta label
"Apple's iOS 27 beta uses this label for the new Siri and also includes a toggle to exit Siri beta mode. Given that we're only a month away from WWDC, there's a good chance this approach will be used in developer betas as well as when iOS 27 launches in the fall. This means that even after a two-year delay (the upgraded Siri is supposed to arrive in 2024), the company could still brand the new feature as unfinished," according to a Bloomberg report.
Additionally, Apple previously used a similar approach when introducing Apple Intelligence, and users will also reportedly have the option to exit beta mode if needed. Technically, the new Siri is said to be powered by Google's Gemini model to help with AI processing. However, Apple will reportedly run it on its own Private Cloud Compute system.
Moreover, this means that user data is not sent directly to Google and conversations are not used to train third-party AI models, thus maintaining Apple's approach to privacy. As of now, there are no further details on the news. So, we should wait for more announcements from Apple.
