BYD patents a system to prevent pets from becoming roadkill

Cat lovers would love this news. BYD has recently patented a system to detect life under the car. This system is meant to prevent incidents of pets becoming road casualties. Let’s take a closer look.

For your information, the patent, filed this month, would have the car take a picture of the underside before it shuts off. When the car is turned back on, another picture is taken. The vehicle's system then differentiates between the before and after pictures. If it detects a difference, a notification would be given to the driver to check the underside of the car.

No plans on real-life implementation at the moment

In addition to detecting the presence of life under the car, the camera system is also designed to detect any structural damage or damage to the battery pack. At this time, the living object detection system and pet detection under the vehicle are still just patents with no plans to offer them on real vehicles.

Personally, we feel this is a very welcome addition for pet owners in Malaysia. Especially for car owners. Sometimes, we might not realise that a cat could be sleeping under the car or just on the tyres. So, we could imagine how grateful pet owners will be when this system can prevent a tragedy from happening. What are your thoughts on the news? Feel free to leave your comments below.
