What to expect for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S26 series - Early rumours on design, specs and everything else
As we approach the end of the year, Samsung has already announced The First Look on 4 January 2026 at CES Las Vegas. While this doesn't confirm anything, we could have a first look at the upcoming Galaxy S26 series, which usually comes early every year.
That being said, a growing number of reports paint a picture of a more refined, performance-focused upgrade rather than a dramatic redesign. Here is everything we know about the Galaxy S26 series so far.
A Familiar Lineup with Subtle Design Tweaks
According to several leaks, Samsung appears to be sticking with a three-model flagship lineup. The S26 series is expected to include the base Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra. On the other hand, rumours suggest that the "Edge" branding may be dropped entirely.
Design-wise, leaked information points to relatively modest design updates rather than a full overhaul. The series is rumoured to adopt a vertically aligned triple-camera module on the standard and Plus variants, while the Ultra may introduce subtle changes, such as more rounded corners and slightly changed proportions. The S26 series is tipped to use a modern M14 OLED panel, with the Ultra's display reportedly hitting QHD+ resolution (~6.9 inches for Ultra, ~6.7 for Plus, ~6.3 for base) to offer better brightness and efficiency.
Exynos 2600 or Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, Depending on Region
Under the hood, the Galaxy S26 series is believed to adopt a dual-chip strategy. In some markets, devices may ship with the in-house Exynos 2600 (likely Samsung's 2 nm-class chip), while others get Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. This split reflects Samsung's ongoing strategy to alternate chipsets by region. However, the return of Exynos in S-series flagships remains a talking point among fans.
Upgraded Cameras (Especially Ultra)
Multiple leaks claim that even the base and Plus models of S26 could get improved camera modules, with better sensors and revised optics. Meanwhile, the S26 Ultra is expected to push imaging further: rumours say it may keep a 200MP main sensor, and possibly include improved telephoto and ultra-wide lenses for more versatile photography.
Although specifics vary across reports, the Ultra's spec sheet, rumoured by many, includes a 200MP main camera, support for high-end zoom via telephoto lenses, and possibly a periscope module. If that's true, then we're likely to see more or less the same camera hardware as its predecessor. This isn't bad, but amidst so many other camera phone innovations, it may be harder to stand out.
Better Battery Life (including Qi2 Wireless)
Battery and charging get plenty of attention among S26 leaks. Reports suggest the S26 Ultra could pack a ~5400mAh battery, with S26+ and base models also seeing modest bumps compared to their predecessors. Charging is where things may get more interesting: multiple sources claim Samsung will introduce true magnetic wireless charging via the Qi2 standard, with built-in magnets to attach compatible accessories and chargers. Moreover, wired charging on the Ultra model could reach up to 60W, a meaningful jump over previous generations.
One UI 8.5 + Android 16
Last but not least, the Galaxy S26 series is expected to launch running One UI 8.5 on top of Android 16. Rumours point to smoother animations, enhanced multitasking, and possibly deeper integration with Samsung's AI and ecosystem features. Other than that, the software rumour side is not very prevalent compared to the rumoured hardware.
Launch Timing - Late January to Early 2026?
Earlier, we said Samsung could give us a first look at the Galaxy S26 series at CES 2026. But traditionally, the company does not do that. Most leaks point to a reveal event in late January 2026 (possibly under the banner of the "Galaxy Unpacked 2026"), with retail availability following in February. Despite earlier rumours of delays, current consensus from reliable sources suggests Samsung remains on track for its usual flagship launch window.
The Galaxy S26 Series Wishlist: What Fans Still Want
For many fans and some tech media news outlets, there is little hope that the Galaxy S26 series will finally fulfil their wishlist. Topping the wishlist are bigger, longer-lasting batteries (possibly with more up-to-date silicon carbon tech?) and faster charging across all models. Camera enthusiasts are also calling for better and meaningful sensor upgrades, such as higher-resolution telephoto and ultrawide cameras on the base and Plus models, not just the flagship.
Even over on Reddit, there's a rising demand for truly flagship features that are not watered down. An Ultra that actually pushes the envelope. All in all, many users are hoping the Galaxy S26 series finally delivers on battery endurance, charging speed, camera versatility, and consistent flagship-grade features across the whole lineup.
Is it still a Meaningful Upgrade For Fans?
Taken together, the surviving rumours about the Galaxy S26 series suggest Samsung is aiming for a balanced refresh of its flagship line. If accurate, the S26 could deliver only slight upgrades. Amidst rumours that devices in 2026 will see higher prices due to rising memory costs, fans may need even more justification to get a brand new flagship device.
As long-time Samsung users ourselves, we're hopeful that Samsung can pull itself and the Galaxy S26 series out of obscurity, but with the new release expected to be just a month or so away, there isn't much that can be done. Our own surveys have shown that AI alone may not be enough. But perhaps better camera features and longer-lasting performance could be the real deal-makers for the brand.
But what do you think? And what are the improved features that you want to see the most on the Galaxy S26 series? Let us know, and until then, stay tuned for our official news coverage next year, only at TechNave.com.
