MOTAC warns Malaysians about a fake MOTAC website

The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC) has issued a public warning regarding a fake website impersonating its official platform in Malaysia. In a recent announcement shared on 12 May 2026, MOTAC urged users not to visit the suspicious website and to remain cautious of possible scam activities linked to the portal.

You should immediately report any suspicious behaviour

According to the ministry, the fake URL detected is “gov-motac.com/#/”, which is not connected to the official Malaysian government website. MOTAC clarified that its official website remains “motac.gov.my” and advised the public to verify URLs carefully before entering any personal information online.

The ministry also encouraged Malaysians to immediately report any suspicious or scam-related activities connected to the fake website. While no specific details about data breaches or phishing attempts were shared, the warning suggests that the fake portal may have been designed to mislead users into believing it was an official government service platform.

Cases involving fake government websites have become increasingly common in recent years, especially as more public services in Malaysia move online. Scam websites often imitate the layout and branding of official portals to trick users into sharing personal details, login credentials, or payment information.

For users, one of the easiest ways to identify an official Malaysian government website is by checking for the “.gov.my” domain. It is also recommended to avoid clicking links from unknown messages or social media posts and instead manually type the official website address into a browser.

At the time of writing, MOTAC did not mention whether the fake website had already been taken down or if further investigations were ongoing. However, the ministry’s advisory serves as another reminder for Malaysians to stay alert against phishing and online impersonation scams.
