BIG Caring launches its automated Klang distribution centre and HQ

Malaysia's largest pharmacy chain, with over 600 branches, BIG CARING Group has launched a new automation-driven Distribution Centre in Klang alongside a centralised corporate headquarters. So, what should you know about it?

A result of the COVID-19 pandemic

For your information, this major transformation in the company's operations and supply chain is a result of lessons learned from the Covid-19 pandemic, which revealed the limitations of the traditional operating model practised previously.

This state-of-the-art facility combines robotics, warehouse control systems and inventory management platforms into one coordinated ecosystem. Its location near Port Klang improves inbound supply chain efficiency and supports faster and more reliable distribution.

At the upstream level, AI-driven smart replenishment systems analyse real-time sales patterns, anticipate demand changes and optimise inventory. At the downstream level, it operates with Tote-to-Person, Shelf-to-Person systems and high-speed solutions for pharmaceutical products.

In total, over 160 robots and 700 racks operate in this system, supporting higher storage density through optimal use of vertical space as well as faster order fulfilment. As a result, the retrieval efficiency increased by 76.5% with an accuracy of 99.8%.

The “goods delivered directly to the worker” approach also reduces physical burden and increases the productivity of the warehouse team.

BIG CARING Group stated its determination to build a future supply chain that is faster, more accurate, flexible and resilient as a pillar of healthcare innovation in Southeast Asia.
