First sloth baby born at Rīga Zoo
· Latvian Public MediaThe little sloth is the first offspring of mother Lele and father Lūkass. Lele and her baby mostly stay in the corner of the exhibit, where they feel safe and calm. The baby sleeps a lot, but wakes up from time to time to eat or stretch – in the case of a sloth baby, this means walking on its mother's body, including her back, and even attempting to climb onto her head. If the baby gets lost, its mother gently guides it back to her belly.
Lele is more active at night – as active as a sloth can be – when the lights are turned off and she goes to feed. It is not yet known whether the baby is a boy or a girl. This will only be possible to find out in a few months.
Sloths can also be watched live from the Rīga Zoo.
