Greece Offers Families Up to €10,000 to Move to Border Areas

Greece is preparing to offer families financial incentives of up to €10,000 to relocate to border regions as part of a broader program aimed at supporting demographic growth and strengthening communities in those areas.

A dedicated online platform for relocation applications is expected to launch in October, according to the online edition of Greek newspaper Imerisia, cited by BTA.

Domna Michailidou, Greece's Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, said the demographic development program, which began in the Evros region on the borders with Bulgaria and Turkey, is now being expanded.

“We are launching the platform in October and will provide up to €10,000 for families relocating to border areas,” Michailidou said in an interview with Antenna TV.

The initiative will also be available to Greek citizens currently living abroad who want to return to Greece.

One example is the Aegean island of Kastellorizo, located near the Turkish coast. People who choose to settle there can receive €5,000 in annual financial assistance, with families receiving an additional €1,000 for each child.

The Greek government also plans to build a kindergarten and a school on the island. Additional incentives are planned for professionals considered particularly needed in the area, including doctors.

The measures form part of a wider effort to encourage people to move to and remain in Greece's border regions while addressing demographic challenges.
