Here's how to watch the Artemis II splashdown

Crew went farther from Earth than any humans we know about, now they’re coming back!

In a world wracked by wars, beset by difficult economic conditions, and struggling with exploding RAM costs, there's one piece of good news. NASA's Artemis II mission has been an unqualified success, having carried four astronauts farther from Earth than any humans before them.

Now, the ship is headed back and is due to splash down at 0007 UTC or 0807 PM ET. You can watch the landing on NASA's official YouTube channel. NASA's Artemis II Crew comes home video will have live coverage and starts at exactly 2230 UTC. We've embedded it below.

Artemis II's ten-day mission began on April 1 when the Orion spacecraft launched and spent its first day in high Earth orbit. It didn't take long for the crew to run into some problems with their toilet system and with Microsoft Outlook. Astronaut Reid Wiseman was quoted as saying "I have two Microsoft Outlooks, and neither one of those are working."

After spending a few days flying toward the Moon, the astronauts – Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen –reached the Moon's sphere of influence on the sixth day of the mission. At that point, the group orbited Luna, coming within 4,067 miles of its surface.

During the lunar flyby, the astronauts identified two previously unnamed craters and proposed names for them: Integrity, after their Orion spacecraft, and Carroll, for Wiseman’s late wife, who died of cancer in 2020.

The crew also traveled farther from Earth than any humans in history, reaching a distance of 252,756 miles from our home planet. That eclipses Apollo 13's record of 248,655 miles.

NASA expects the crew will reach Earth’s upper atmosphere at 2353 UTC, traveling at nearly 35 times the speed of sound, before splashing down off the coast of San Diego 14 minutes later. ®
