In Short

  • CBSE Exam Controller admits possibility of errors, opens answer sheet verification from May 19
  • CBSE opens answer sheet access from May 19, students can apply till May 22
  • Re-evaluation window opens May 26, students can report discrepancies online

CBSE Class 12 students who are unsure about their marks now have a clear path to review their answer sheets. After declaring the 2026 results, the board has opened its post-result process, and this time, it comes with a strong message from officials: errors can happen, but they will be fixed.

CBSE Controller of Examinations Sanyam Bhardwaj addressed concerns speaking to ANI, saying, "We evaluate approximately 1.25 crore answer scripts; there is a possibility that an error may occur somewhere. To rectify such errors, we offer certain facilities to our students."

"The CBSE is an institution that works in the best interest of the students, and we operate with complete transparency," he said.

Sanyam Bhardwaj’s remarks come a day after CBSE reiterated on X its "commitment to fair, transparent and equitable evaluation", defending its On-Screen Marking system and confirming that re-evaluation options will remain available for students dissatisfied with their scores.

HOW THE RE-CHECKING PROCESS WILL WORK

The process will happen in two clear stages, and students need to follow the order carefully.

First, students can apply to get a copy of their evaluated answer sheets. "The window to request these answer scripts will open on the 19th, and students may apply for them until the 22nd," Bhardwaj said.

Once they receive the copies, the responsibility shifts to students. They must go through each answer, compare it with marking schemes, and identify possible mistakes.

"If they identify any errors, they should make a note of them," he added.

Application window will be open from May 19 to 22 for scanned copies of evaluated answer books for CBSE Class 12, while the window for verification of marks and re-evaluation requests will be open from May 26 to 29.

SECOND WINDOW OPENS FOR ERROR REPORTING

After reviewing their answer sheets, students can formally raise objections.

"A second window will open from the 26th to the 29th, during which they can apply to report that there are issues or discrepancies," Bhardwaj explained.

This is where students can request verification or re-evaluation, depending on the issue they spot.

MARKS CAN INCREASE OR EVEN DECREASE

One key detail students should not ignore is what happens after re-checking.

"If any error is detected and confirmed by our panel of experts, that error will be rectified immediately," Bhardwaj said.

He also clarified the flip side: "If correcting that error results in the student being entitled to higher marks, those additional marks will be duly awarded. It is also imperative to clarify if the correction of an error results in a lower score, the student's marks will be reduced accordingly."

WHY THIS PROCESS MATTERS

For many students, board marks shape college admissions and career paths. This process gives them a second chance to ensure their performance has been evaluated correctly.

CBSE’s message is clear. The system is open to scrutiny, and students are encouraged to use it carefully.
