Well, a Bluetooth tracker can solve that problem, and no, you don't have to splurge on an Apple AirTag. Reliance Jio has launched the JioTag 2, its second-generation smart tracker that works with both Android and iPhone users. With support for Google's Find Hub and Apple's Find My networks, a redesigned body and longer battery life, the JioTag 2 brings several notable upgrades over its predecessor.

The second-generation tracker arrives nearly three years after the original JioTag, which was launched as Jio's affordable alternative to trackers such as Apple's AirTag. But what exactly does it do, how does it work, and is it worth buying? Here's everything you need to know.

What is the JioTag 2?

The JioTag 2 is a small Bluetooth tracker that you can attach to everyday items such as your keys, wallet, handbag, luggage, laptop bag or even a bicycle. The idea is simple. Pair it with your smartphone, attach it to something you don't want to lose, and if it goes missing, you can use your phone to track it down.

How does it work, you ask? Unlike GPS trackers, the JioTag 2 doesn't have its own SIM card or cellular connection. Instead, it relies on Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and Google's and Apple's crowdsourced device networks to help you locate your belongings.

Let's say you've misplaced your keys somewhere at home. If the JioTag 2 is still within Bluetooth range, you can simply open the Google Find Hub or Apple Find My app and make the tracker ring. It features a 120dB built-in buzzer, which helps users quickly locate misplaced items nearby. So whether the keys have slipped under the sofa or a backpack has been left in another room, the tracker can simply be made to ring through the app.

But what if the item is no longer within Bluetooth range? The JioTag 2 can still help. It uses Google's Find Hub and Apple's Find My community networks, where nearby compatible Android or Apple devices can anonymously detect the tracker and update its location. Users can then check the app to see where it was last spotted.

The tracker also supports Lost Mode. Once enabled, it can send location updates whenever another compatible Android or Apple device comes close to the missing JioTag 2. According to Jio, this enables semi-real-time location updates, improving the chances of recovering lost belongings.

Upgrades in JioTag 2

The biggest upgrade? It now works with both Android and iPhone.

Unlike the original JioTag, the new model supports Google Find Hub on Android phones and Apple Find My on iPhones and iPads. That means users no longer have to worry about which phone they use before buying the tracker.

It's also one of the few affordable Bluetooth trackers in India to support both ecosystems. So, whether someone uses an Android phone today or plans to switch to an iPhone later, the JioTag 2 will continue to work.

Another useful feature is that the JioTag 2 doesn't require a SIM card, mobile data plan or monthly subscription. Users can just pair it with their smartphone once, and it will work quietly in the background using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). Compared to GPS trackers, this also makes it more power-efficient and compact.

In terms of design, the JioTag 2 has a polycarbonate body with an IP64 rating for dust and splash resistance. It also includes a built-in loop for attaching it to keys, bags or luggage. The tracker weighs around 30g and is available in Black, Red and Green.

Battery life and design

The JioTag 2 is powered by a replaceable CR2032 coin-cell battery, which Jio claims can last for up to a year. The company is also including an extra battery in the box, so users get up to two years of battery life before needing to buy a replacement.

JioTag 2 price in India

Reliance Jio has launched the JioTag 2 in India at Rs 1,249. It is currently available through Amazon India, where eligible bank offers can reduce the effective price to Rs 1,199.
