OnePlus is preparing to launch its next flagship, the OnePlus 16, in China on October 12. The company has been teasing the device for a while to boost buyer interest. We already have details about its powerful chipset, display and high-end cameras. Now the Chinese company has revealed details about the battery the phone is set to carry. Company executive Li Jie Louise confirmed on Weibo, a popular Chinese social media platform, that the OnePlus 16 will pack a whopping 9,000mAh battery. A notable jump from its predecessor the OnePlus 15, which carries a 7300mAh cell.
From the earlier announcement at the 2026 OnePlus Gaming Conference, we have reason to believe the OnePlus 16 will be a game-savvy phone like the OnePlus 15. But this time, the company seems to be doubling down on the particular area.
OnePlus 16 key features revealed
The OnePlus 16 will be powered by Qualcomm's latest and most powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset and will be the first OnePlus smartphone to run ColourOS 17 out of the box. The display will support a 165Hz refresh rate for regular use, while gaming can push it up to 185Hz. OnePlus has also confirmed native 185fps support for games including Arena Breakout, Nizhan: Future, Naruto Mobile and Peace Elite.
The phone will also feature a self-developed three-chip esports system, with dedicated chips handling the display, touch response and connectivity. It will be paired with a new Fengchi Gaming Kernel, which OnePlus says is designed to help maintain high frame rates for longer during gaming.
For photography, the OnePlus 16 will feature a 200-megapixel primary camera and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera. The phone will be available in three colour options. In a benchmark test, a 16GB RAM and 1TB storage configuration reportedly scored more than 5.38 million points on AnTuTu.
What to expect from Oneplus 16
Now we are about to enter the territory of leaks. It’s worth noting that OnePlus’s recent battery reveal corroborates tipster Digital Chat Station’s claim of a 9,000mAh battery. And the tipster further claimed earlier that the battery would support 100W wired and 50W wireless charging.
Reports suggest the camera setup could also include a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera, along with a telephoto lens offering 3x optical zoom and up to 6x lossless zoom. For selfies, the phone is expected to feature a 50-megapixel autofocus camera. Earlier leaks have also pointed to thinner bezels compared to the OnePlus 15.
While details about the China launch are already emerging, the global launch is reportedly planned for November. However, the India launch remains uncertain. Reports suggest OnePlus could skip the regular OnePlus 16 in India and introduce the OnePlus 16R instead, although the company has not confirmed this yet.
