by Saumya Shubham Jha · India TodayTata has dropped a teaser of the Sierra EV, offering the clearest indication yet that the electric SUV will arrive with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup. The electric SUV will make its debut on June 30.
The latest teaser showcases the SUV traversing desert terrain, powering through loose sand and steep dunes. More importantly, a close-up shot of the tailgate reveals a "QWD Dual Motor" badge, confirming the presence of Tata's Quad Wheel Drive technology. The setup is expected to function similarly to the system seen on the Harrier EV, with independent electric motors powering the front and rear axles.
Under the skin, the Sierra EV is likely to be based on Tata's latest acti.ev+ platform. Industry expectations suggest it could share key components with the Harrier EV, including 65kWh and 75kWh battery pack options. The larger battery variant is likely to be paired with the dual-motor QWD system, while lower variants may continue with a single-motor configuration.
Although Tata Motors has not disclosed performance figures, Tata could offer substantially higher output and torque than the brand's current electric SUVs. Fast-charging capabilities and official range figures are expected to be announced closer to launch.
In terms of design, the Sierra EV will retain the distinctive silhouette that pays homage to the iconic original Sierra. Signature styling elements such as the upright stance, connected LED lighting, thick rear pillars and the characteristic glasshouse design are expected to remain intact. However, the EV version will feature a cleaner front-end treatment with a closed-off grille and EV-specific detailing.
The cabin is expected to mirror the premium layout showcased on the Sierra ICE concept. Top-spec variants could feature a triple-screen arrangement comprising a digital instrument cluster, central infotainment display and a dedicated passenger screen. Other likely highlights include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated and powered front seats, a premium JBL audio system with Dolby Atmos, dual-zone climate control, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and an augmented reality head-up display.
Once launched, the Sierra EV will slot between the Curvv EV and Harrier EV in Tata Motors' electric lineup. Expected pricing is likely to fall in the Rs 18 lakh to Rs 24 lakh (ex-showroom) bracket, placing it against rivals such as the Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric, MG Windsor, Maruti e Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella.
