In Short

  • Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro series in September
  • The Pro models may keep familiar styling with a smaller Dynamic Island
  • A more efficient LTPO+ panel could lower power use on both

Apple's next-generation iPhones are just 3 months away, but the rumour mill is already working overtime. With September traditionally being Apple's biggest smartphone launch window, attention is now moving to what the company could have planned for the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. As we move closer to the second half of 2026, leaks and analyst reports are beginning to paint a clearer picture of the upcoming devices. If the reports are accurate, Apple could be preparing several notable upgrades for its premium iPhones, including a faster chipset, camera improvements, a larger battery, a refined Dynamic Island experience and a new in-house modem. Interestingly, this year's lineup may look different from what many buyers are used to. Reports suggest Apple might not introduce a standard iPhone 18 or an iPhone 18e model alongside the Pro versions. At the same time, the company is also rumoured to be gearing up for the debut of its long-awaited foldable iPhone, a product that has been the subject of speculation for years. For now, though, the spotlight remains firmly on the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. From expected India pricing and launch timeline to battery, display, camera and performance upgrades, here is a look at everything that has surfaced online so far.

Familiar design, but with a cleaner front

The iPhone 18 Pro models are tipped to retain Apple's current premium design language. Leaks indicate that the triple-camera setup and the large rear camera module seen on recent Pro iPhones will remain in place. Apple is reportedly making subtle refinements to the rear panel finish to create a smoother blend between the frame and the back of the device.

The bigger visual change may be visible on the front. Earlier reports suggested that Apple could move Face ID components beneath the display, but newer leaks indicate that such technology may not be ready yet. Instead, the company is reportedly working on reducing the size of the Dynamic Island.

According to tipster Ice Universe, the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 18 Pro series could become nearly 35 per cent narrower than the current implementation. If true, users would get slightly more usable screen space while still retaining the feature.

Display sizes are expected to remain largely unchanged. The standard Pro model is tipped to feature a 6.3-inch display, while the Pro Max could continue with a 6.9-inch screen. Some reports have hinted at an almost 7-inch panel for the Pro model, but there is no strong evidence to support that claim yet. Apple is also said to be adopting a more efficient LTPO+ display technology, which could help reduce power consumption.

Battery improvements

Battery life has become a key selling point for flagship smartphones, and Apple may be looking to push things further with the iPhone 18 Pro Max.

Leaks suggest the device could house a battery between 5,100mAh and 5,200mAh, making it slightly larger than the battery found in the previous generation. Reports also indicate that the Pro Max could become marginally thicker, which may allow Apple to accommodate the larger cell.

Combined with a more efficient display and a next-generation chipset, the larger battery could result in noticeable gains in real-world endurance.

Major camera improvements?

Apple is also rumoured to be preparing several camera upgrades. One of the most talked-about changes is a possible variable aperture system for the primary camera. Such a feature would allow the camera to adjust the amount of incoming light, potentially giving users more flexibility in different shooting conditions.

The company is also reportedly testing a new three-layer stacked image sensor developed by Samsung. The upgraded sensor is expected to improve image quality by reducing noise, improving responsiveness and delivering better dynamic range.

The telephoto camera could also receive attention. Leaks point to a wider aperture that may help capture brighter images in low-light situations. Some reports have additionally suggested that Apple is exploring teleconverter-inspired technology to enhance zoom performance, although details remain limited at this stage.

New chip, next-generation modem

Powering the iPhone 18 Pro lineup is expected to be Apple's upcoming A20 processor. The chip is reportedly being manufactured using TSMC's advanced 2nm process, marking another major step forward in efficiency and performance.

According to leaks, the new chipset could deliver up to 15 per cent better performance while improving power efficiency by nearly 30 per cent compared to its predecessor. Apple is also said to be using a new packaging technology that places memory closer to the processor, potentially improving Apple Intelligence features and freeing up internal space.

Connectivity could see notable improvements as well. The company is expected to introduce its next-generation C2 modem, which may bring mmWave 5G support alongside stronger satellite communication capabilities.

Future satellite features could extend beyond emergency services. Reports suggest Apple is exploring broader satellite connectivity that may eventually enable internet access in areas without traditional network coverage and support for third-party applications.

New colour options

Apple may refresh the colour palette for the Pro series this year. One of the shades reportedly under consideration is a dark cherry finish, described as a deep red colour with subtle purple tones. Other leaked options include silver, dark grey and light blue.

As with all pre-launch leaks, final colours could change before production begins.

iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max: India price (Expected/leaked)

The biggest question for many buyers ahead of Apple's next launch is whether the company plans to raise prices again. Current leaks, however, suggest that the iPhone 18 Pro lineup may not see a substantial jump in pricing despite the hardware improvements expected this year.

According to noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is unlikely to introduce a major increase for the iPhone 18 Pro series. One possible reason is that the company already revised the pricing of the iPhone 17 Pro models in India last year, adding Rs 5,000 to their starting prices. Another noticeable increase could make the devices harder to position in markets such as India, where pricing remains an important factor even in the premium segment.

For reference, the iPhone 17 Pro debuted in India at Rs 1,34,900, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max carried a starting price of Rs 1,49,900. If Apple follows a similar strategy this year, the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models could arrive at roughly the same price points, although a minor increase cannot be ruled out.

Keeping prices steady may not be straightforward, though. Reports indicate that Apple's move to a next-generation 2nm chip could significantly raise manufacturing expenses. The company is also facing higher component costs as memory prices continue to climb globally. The challenge is not unique to Apple, as several smartphone brands, including Xiaomi, OnePlus and Nothing, have already adjusted prices for some of their products in recent months.

Even so, analysts believe Apple could choose to absorb part of the additional cost burden rather than pass everything on to consumers. Doing so would help the company maintain momentum in key premium smartphone markets. Another analyst, Jeff Pu, has reportedly suggested that Apple may take an aggressive pricing approach by either leaving prices unchanged or limiting any increase to a very small amount.

With the launch still a few months away, pricing details remain unofficial. More clarity is expected to emerge as Apple gets closer to unveiling the iPhone 18 Pro series. You can stay tuned to India Today Tech for all the latest updates.
