This new Rs 1.24 lakh bike can run on up to 85% ethanol
The Yamaha FZ Blue Flex is powered by the familiar 149cc engine but is engineered to run on ethanol blends ranging from E20 to E85, marking Yamaha's latest step towards sustainable mobility.
by Saumya Shubham Jha · India TodayIndia Yamaha Motor has launched the FZ Blue Flex in India at Rs 1,24,240 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The motorcycle is the first Yamaha model developed to run on ethanol-blended fuels ranging from E20 to E85.
The FZ Blue Flex is powered by the company's familiar 149cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, fuel-injected petrol engine, which now supports higher ethanol blends without compromising everyday usability. The engine produces 11.7bhp at 7,250rpm and 12.8Nm of peak torque at 6,000rpm, paired with a 5-speed gearbox.
Yamaha says the motorcycle has been engineered to reduce dependence on conventional fossil fuels while supporting India's transition towards cleaner mobility. The launch also aligns with the company's broader global strategy of achieving carbon neutrality through multiple technologies, alongside its ongoing electric mobility initiatives.
Commenting on the launch, Hajime Aota, Chairman, Yamaha Motor India Group, said that achieving carbon neutrality requires a multi-pathway approach rather than relying on a single technology. He added that the introduction of Blue Flex technology reflects Yamaha's commitment to India's evolving biofuel policies while complementing its global sustainability goals.
In terms of design, the FZ Blue Flex retains the styling of the standard FZ range. It features a full-LED projector headlamp with integrated position lamps, a muscular fuel tank with aerodynamic extensions, faux air vents, a compact exhaust, a single-piece seat, and an LED tail lamp. The motorcycle rides on telescopic front forks and a rear swingarm suspension, while braking duties are aided by ABS for improved safety.
The FZ Blue Flex will be offered in a single Metallic Black colour option and will be retailed through select Yamaha Blue Square dealerships across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana and Tamil Nadu.
With ethanol blending gaining momentum in India, the FZ Blue Flex joins the growing list of flex-fuel vehicles entering the market, giving buyers an option to use fuels containing up to 85% ethanol while supporting the country's push towards lower-emission mobility solutions.
