Elon Musk’s SpaceXSI has announced a partnership with Tech Mahindra. As part of the deal, Tech Mahindra will use the Grok Build coding agent for software, and to modernise legacy systems.
This marks the first time that SpaceXSI has collaborated with an Indian IT player like Tech Mahindra. However, the two companies have not given any details on the finances of the deal. This comes at a time when Indian SaaS companies like Tech Mahindra and TCS have faced uncertainty over their future due to the rise in AI adoption.
Tech Mahindra to use Grok AI
The deal aims to speed up software development and improve productivity with the use of Grok AI. Through this partnership, Tech Mahindra will use Grok to come up with industry-specific solutions for clients, such as technology, telecommunications, banking and financial services, and manufacturing.
Grok Build can work across several stages of software development, including understanding technical requirements, generating code, supporting testing and helping engineers update applications. Tech Mahindra plans to use these capabilities across the development lifecycle rather than for isolated coding tasks.
The offering will focus partly on legacy systems, which can contain millions of lines of code developed over decades and remain connected to databases, payment systems and other business processes. AI tools can analyse existing code, document systems, identify dependencies and assist engineers in rewriting or migrating applications. Tech Mahindra said it will train employees along with certification programmes.
The partnership forms a broader part of the SpaceX Super Intelligence Partner Network. Announced by SpaceXSI, the network is designed for companies building products, services and integrations with Grok. More than 130 companies joined the early-access phase. Launch partners include Nvidia, Databricks, and NTT Data.
Tech Mahindra has previously signed deals with Google Cloud and Microsoft. The company has developed AI-powered platforms in the past. Other Indian IT companies have also signed deals with AI players. TCS, for instance, has agreements with OpenAI and Anthropic. Wipro too has similar deals in place.
