Xiaomi has announced the launch of the Redmi K90 Max in China this month. Ahead of its debut, the company teased the device, revealing key features. Notably, earlier speculation pointed towards the arrival of a Redmi K90 Ultra as a gaming flagship smartphone, but the company has now confirmed the K90 Max. So, is the Max taking the place of the Ultra, or is there still a chance for a separate Ultra model? It remains unclear. The Redmi K90 Max is expected to join the existing Redmi K90 and Redmi K90 Pro Max lineup, which debuted in China in October 2025.

Redmi K90 Max is coming with an active air cooling setup

Xiaomi Group President, Lu Weibing, took to the Chinese social media Weibo and revealed through a series of posts that the Redmi K90 Max is arriving this month with an active air cooling system. This will make the device the first of its kind in the Redmi K series. The phone features an advanced cooling system with an internal fan, designed to deliver improved sustained performance for longer gaming sessions. The company claims to have integrated a large 18.1mm fan, which is said to deliver up to 1.3x higher airflow compared to conventional designs. It also claims that the system can reduce the device’s temperature by up to 10°C within 100 seconds under heavy load conditions.

Xiaomi says the cooling system has been designed using AI-based simulations to optimise airflow and heat management. The company also claims that the system is quieter compared to other phones with active cooling. The setup uses a vertical air intake design that lets more air flow into the phone while reducing resistance, helping it maintain performance during long usage. It also features forward-tilted fan blades and a vortex-style air duct that improve airflow efficiency, directing cool air toward heat-generating components like the chipset.

The Redmi K90 Max will be equipped with a refresh rate of up to 165Hz. The company confirmed that the smartphone will feature a next-generation flagship processor and a dual-core performance architecture. But the exact type of the cheapest is yet to be revealed. However, leaks suggest it is likely to be the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chipset.
