  • The proposed plan could bring both services under one subscription
  • The new lineup may include four pricing tiers

Elon Musk’s AI company is reportedly rethinking how it charges users. Right now, Grok and X have separate subscription plans, making the pricing structure a little complicated. The new pricing structure is said to offer a simpler way to charge users for both Grok and X. Chatbots run on enormous computing power, and that power costs serious money. Now, the new plans may help the company cover some of those costs.

According to Bloomberg, which viewed an internal document, SpaceXAI, the AI unit of Musk's SpaceX, is considering a single subscription covering both its Grok chatbot and the social network X. The plan would have four pricing tiers.

How the new plans work

At the bottom sits a free tier. Here, Grok users will get a test of AI but with stricter usage limits. At the top sits "Ultra," priced at $100 (roughly Rs 9,599) a month and aimed at power users. It includes access to Grok Bot, an AI agent, meaning a digital helper that can carry out tasks for you instead of just answering questions.

In between, reports say, is a "Lite" plan at $8 (approximately Rs 767) a month. It bundles Grok access with a verified badge and fewer ads cluttering your X feed. Though the Bloomberg report mentioned four plans, it explicitly revealed only two plans, the Ultra and Lite.

Right now, the pricing structure is similar to a maze. X has three plans: Basic at $3 (around Rs 287), Premium at $8 (Rs 767) and Premium+ at $40 (around Rs 3,839) a month. Grok has its own: a free version, SuperGrok at $30 (around Rs 2,879), SuperGrok Plus at $100 (around Rs 9,599) and SuperGrok Heavy at $300 (around Rs 28,797) a month. That's seven options across two products, which could be a little confusing. So, restructuring plans could offer a simple way to choose among them.

How Do the Rivals Charge

Grok's rivals already have clear, step-by-step plans. OpenAI's ChatGPT offers a free plan, Go at Rs 399, Plus at Rs 1,999, and Pro at Rs 10,699 a month. Anthropic's Claude has a free plan, Pro at Rs 2,399, and Max at Rs 11,999. Google's Gemini starts free, then Google AI Plus at Rs 100, AI Pro at Rs 489, and AI Ultra at Rs 65,00.
