Apple's new Siri AI may bring a big design change for iPhone 18 Pro

Apple's new Siri AI may have revealed a key design change coming to the iPhone 18 Pro. A small difference in how Siri appears on the iPhone, iPad and Mac has fuelled rumours that Apple is planning a smaller Dynamic Island.

  • Siri AI's new interface may hint at a smaller Dynamic Island on the iPhone 18 Pro
  • Leaks suggest Apple could shrink the Dynamic Island by around 35 per cent
  • The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to retain most of the design of its predecessor

Apple's newly unveiled Siri AI is designed to make the company's virtual assistant smarter, more conversational and more useful across devices. But according to recent reports, it may also be hinting at a much-anticipated design change coming to the iPhone 18 Pro later this year.

Apple introduced the new Siri AI as one of the headline features at Apple's WWDC 2026 keynote. It is now available to users running the iOS 27 beta after joining Apple's waitlist. While much of the attention for Siri AI has been focused on its improved intelligence and deeper integration across apps, some reports suggest its visual design could be hinting at Apple's hardware plans for the next generation of iPhones.

So far, rumours surrounding the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max have suggested that Apple is not planning a dramatic redesign this year. Speculation suggests the upcoming Pro models will retain the overall look of the iPhone 17 Pro series, including the full-width camera plateau and aluminium unibody design. However, one change that has repeatedly surfaced in reports is a smaller Dynamic Island.

According to several leaks, Apple could reduce the size of the Dynamic Island by around 35 per cent on the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. While that may sound like a relatively minor tweak, the new Siri AI interface now seems to have added fresh weight to the speculation.

The clue lies in how Siri appears on different Apple devices. On current iPhones running iOS 27 beta 1, Siri AI shows up as an elongated oval shape that closely resembles the width of the existing Dynamic Island. On the iPad and Mac, however, Siri appears as a more traditional circular orb.

That difference has led some Apple watchers to believe the interface has been designed around the hardware limitations of current iPhones. If the Dynamic Island becomes smaller on future models, Apple could potentially switch to the circular Siri orb already seen on the iPad and Mac, creating a more consistent experience across its product lineup.

The theory is that Apple may have already designed Siri AI with future hardware in mind, while adapting the interface for existing iPhones that still feature the larger cutout. While there is no official confirmation from Apple, some commentators have described it as a subtle hint that the smaller Dynamic Island rumours may be accurate.

The future of the Dynamic Island has been the subject of conflicting reports over the past year. Earlier leaks suggested Apple planned to move Face ID components underneath the display, leaving only a small camera cutout visible on the front. Later reports pointed instead to a smaller Dynamic Island enabled by an upgraded Face ID system with some components hidden under the screen.

Some users on Reddit have argued that even a reduced Dynamic Island would still be larger than the punch-hole cameras found on many Android smartphones. Others believe the real upgrade will only come when Apple manages to hide all front-facing components beneath the display.
