Telegram now lets bots chat with other bots, no human needed

Telegram has announced that it will now allow a bot to chat with other bots on its own, without needing a human. Here is how this works.

Earlier this year, a new online platform called Moltbook went viral. On the surface, it was similar to Reddit, but with a difference. Every post, every comment came from an AI bot, with humans having only the option to see posts. And now, it seems that Telegram may be doing something similar, at least when it comes to letting bots talk to one another.

On X, Telegram CEO Pavel Durov wrote that Telegram would allow bots to talk to one another. He claimed that this was something developers had been asking for. Durov stated, “AI devs asked for this — and we delivered.Bots can now talk to other bots on Telegram.”

According to the Telegram chief, this could change the way bots do autonomous work for humans. He added, “Autonomous agents now have a communication layer humans can follow.”

Bots talking to each other on Telegram

The bot-to-bot chat feature was part of a wider Telegram update released on May 7. The company says Telegram is the “only platform where all AI models can compete freely — while users have full control over their experience.”

Coming to bot-to-bot conversations, Telegram states that now bots can reply to other bots and not only to users. For this, all you need to do is to turn on Bot-to-Bot Communication Mode. When it is enabled for both the sending and receiving bot, they can talk to one another.

What can this do?

Telegram claims this could be used to automate workflows with fully autonomous agents. That is, a collaborator bot can ask a reviewer bot for a code review and processing the feedback in a group, without needing human intervention.

Or one bot can work together in private chats to build and run new autonomous workflows.

You can also have your bot use another boot as a tool. That is your bot can use another bot to book reservations, process customer queries, or perform complex tasks on your behalf.

Keep in mind that while Moltbook was only an AI social media platform, Telegram’s update can bring functionality to bot-to-bot communication.

A bot managing your chats?

Telegram is also giving you the option to automate your chats with bots via Chat Automation. This will allow you to connect your profile to a bot which can then reply to messages on your behalf. To do this, you just need to select the chats you want to automate in the chat automation section in settings.

There’s also a Guest Bots feature. AI assistants and automated tools built as Telegram bots can now be mentioned in any private or group chat, even when they are not members of that chat. Users only need to include a bot's username in a message, after which the bot can answer questions, fact-check, generate text or images, perform tasks and reply in the same chat.

Telegram said bots in this mode can only access the specific message in which they are tagged and replies to that message, and cannot see who is in the chat or access other messages.
