What success looks like, ask Apple. It saw its smartphones, aka iPhones, become a global hallmark since their first launch in 2007. Even after nearly two decades, whenever a new iPhone series is set to come out in the market, its fans show the same excitement. The month of September — when Apple generally unveils its new products — is still a few months away. But through the rumour mills, details about the next-generation iPhone create waves from time to time.
This year, the Cupertino-based company is likely to launch only its pro models, alongside its first foldable smartphone. In other words, we may see three iPhone models — iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone Fold — breaking cover in September. While other variants of the lineup — the standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18 Air, and iPhone 18e may debut next year.
However, in this article, we are going to take a closer look at the iPhone 18 Pro Max, including its known specs, design and features.
iPhone 18 Pro Max design
The upcoming iPhone 18 Pro series could continue to feature the same triple-camera setup with the same rear camera plateau that we see on recent Pro iPhones. However, leaks suggest we could see a notable upgrade in the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro series by refining the rear finish.
The front of the iPhone 18 Pro is reportedly in for a meaningful refresh. Apple had long been rumoured to move the entire Face ID system under the display, but that technology doesn't appear ready for mass production just yet. The more likely outcome, according to recent leaks, is a smaller Dynamic Island — which would still be a welcome change, freeing up more usable screen real estate in the process.
The iPhone 18 Pro Max is rumoured to get ever so slightly thicker this year — going from 8.75mm to 8.8mm. That 0.05mm difference is barely perceptible in the hand, but it reportedly gives Apple just enough room to squeeze in a larger battery.
iPhone 18 Pro Max battery
The iPhone 18 Pro Max is expected to get a bigger battery — somewhere between 5,100mAh and 5,200mAh, up from 5,088mAh in the iPhone 17 Pro Max. On top of that, Apple's new 2nm chip is expected to be more power-efficient than its predecessor, which means the phone should last even longer on a single charge. Battery details for the regular Pro model haven't surfaced yet.
iPhone 18 Pro Max colours
Four colours are rumoured for the iPhone 18 Pro lineup — Dark Grey, Silver, Sky Blue, and Dark Cherry. The first two are exactly what you'd expect from Apple's Pro range: understated, refined, and safe. The latter two are where things get interesting.
Sky Blue brings a quiet freshness to the palette, while Dark Cherry is already turning heads — a deep, wine-red finish with a premium feel that's proving hard to ignore in the leak cycle. It carries forward Apple's tradition of giving the Pro lineup exclusive, distinctive colours that the standard models simply don't get — a lineage that includes the likes of Cosmic Orange and Desert Titanium.
iPhone 18 series camera
Cameras are expected to see some of the most meaningful upgrades this cycle. The main camera is reportedly getting a variable aperture, meaning users could control how much light enters the lens, leading to better-exposed shots and more natural depth effects.
Beneath the lens, Apple is said to be testing a new three-layer stacked sensor from Samsung. The technology promises faster response times, cleaner low-light performance, and improved dynamic range — essentially, photos that better reflect what your eyes actually see.
The telephoto lens isn't being left behind either. A larger aperture would make it more capable after dark, and Apple is reportedly looking into teleconverter technology to push zoom quality further — though how that would work within a smartphone form factor is still an open question.
iPhone 18 series chipset
The iPhone 18 Pro series is expected to run on the new A20 chip, built on TSMC's 2nm process. The jump in performance is said to be around 15 per cent, with efficiency gains of up to 30 per cent over the current generation — meaning more power while demanding less from the battery.
Apple is also reportedly adopting a new packaging technique called WMCM, which brings the RAM closer to the processor at a hardware level. The practical benefits could include snappier Apple Intelligence performance, better overall efficiency, and a little extra room inside the chassis for other components.
iPhone 18 Pro Max expected India price
When the global cheap crisis is breathing down the neck, the biggest question is, will Apple be able to maintain the price range? Well, leaks suggest that it may avoid a major price increase despite the expected hardware upgrades.
Pricing is unlikely to spring any surprises. The iPhone 17 Pro Max launched at Rs 1,49,900 in India, and if Apple follows the same playbook, the 18 Pro Max should land in a similar range, with any increase, if at all, being marginal.
