After registering a solid opening of Rs 24 crore nett in India, Suriya's Kanguva dropped to a mere Rs 9 crore on its second day at the box office. While a slight dip was expected, considering it was a working day, the film showed around a 50 per cent drop from its opening day numbers, which seemed concerning for the makers.
Directed by Siva, Kanguva received mixed word-of-mouth and the criticism around its loud music probably made the viewers resist visiting theatres on Friday. The corrective measures, though, have been taken by the makers, as revealed by producer GE Gnaneval Raja during a media interaction on November 15.

Kanguva, which also stars Bobby Deol and Disha Patani, saw the maximum drop from Tamil Nadu and Telugu states. As per a report published in the trade website Sacnilk, the film saw a 50 per cent drop in Tamil Nadu alone, where it grossed in the range of Rs 4-4.50 crore on the second day, followed by a similar drop in the Telugu states where it grossed Rs 2.25-2.50 crore on Friday as per early estimates.
The film grossed around Rs 39 crore in two days domestically, with a nett collection of Rs 33 crore. This is clearly unexpected, and the makers will try their best now to have the collections picked up on Saturday and Sunday.
Kanguva, with the kind of budget it boasts, and the marketing that it had planned, was expected to at least cross Rs 100 crore nett in the first weekend. It will be interesting to see how the film manages to achieve that feat in two days now.
