Maruti Suzuki posts record monthly sales of 2.42 lakh units in May 2026, domestic sales hit all-time high
A strong surge in domestic demand and exports helped Maruti Suzuki achieve its highest-ever monthly sales in May 2026, with total volumes crossing 2.42 lakh units and domestic sales reaching a record high.
by Saumya Shubham Jha · India TodayMaruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) recorded its highest-ever monthly sales in May 2026, selling a total of 2,42,688 units across domestic and export markets. The country's largest carmaker also achieved its highest-ever domestic sales volume during the month at 1,93,535 units.
Domestic passenger vehicle sales stood at 1,90,337 units, while light commercial vehicle (LCV) sales contributed another 3,198 units. Sales to other OEMs were recorded at 7,239 units, and exports reached 41,914 units.
Maruti Suzuki's utility vehicle portfolio continued to drive growth. The segment, comprising the Brezza, Ertiga, e Vitara, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Invicto, Jimny, Victoris and XL6, registered sales of 79,267 units in May 2026, up sharply from 54,899 units in the corresponding month last year.
The company's passenger car segment also posted strong growth. Sales of mini cars, including the Alto and S-Presso, stood at 16,275 units, compared to 6,776 units in May 2025. The compact and mid-size car portfolio, which includes the Baleno, Celerio, Ciaz, Dzire, Ignis, Swift and WagonR, recorded sales of 81,555 units against 61,960 units a year earlier.
Combined passenger car sales reached 97,830 units during the month, registering a substantial increase over 68,736 units sold in May 2025.
The Eeco van continued to remain a steady contributor to volumes, with sales of 13,240 units compared to 12,327 units in the same month last year. Meanwhile, Super Carry light commercial vehicle sales rose to 3,198 units from 2,728 units.
Including passenger vehicles and LCVs, Maruti Suzuki's total domestic sales stood at 1,93,535 units, up from 1,38,690 units in May 2025. Total domestic sales, including OEM supplies, were recorded at 2,00,774 units, compared to 1,48,858 units a year ago.
Exports also witnessed healthy growth, increasing to 41,914 units from 31,219 units in May last year.
For the April-May period of FY2026-27, Maruti Suzuki's cumulative sales reached 4,82,334 units, comprising 4,00,366 units sold in the domestic market and 81,968 units exported. During the same period last fiscal, the company had recorded total sales of 3,59,868 units.
The strong performance underscores sustained demand across Maruti Suzuki's product portfolio, particularly in the utility vehicle and compact car segments, while exports continued to provide additional momentum to overall growth.
