September 9, a date Apple has put on its calendar for this year’s event, which is cheekily titled “Surprise and shine.” Apple, this time, instead of the usual full lineup dropping all at once, is reportedly splitting things up. The iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and Apple's long-awaited first foldable iPhone are expected to headline the show, while the standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and a second-generation iPhone Air quietly wait their turn until spring 2027. In other words, September belongs almost entirely to the Pro crowd this year. Here's everything we know so far.

iPhone 18 Pro design

First and foremost, don't expect Apple to reinvent the wheel here. The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are tipped to retain their 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays, the aluminium frame, and that unmistakably large rear camera plateau, though leaked dummy units suggest the camera bump itself could be slightly thicker this time around. The phones' overall might also gain a touch of extra thickness, reportedly to make room for bigger batteries and a new cooling system, because apparently even flagship phones need to catch their breath sometimes.

Up front, Apple is said to be chasing a smaller Dynamic Island, though leaks can't quite agree on whether it actually lands this year or gets pushed to a future generation. Earlier rumours had Face ID hardware moving completely under the display, but more recent leaks suggest Apple might not be quite ready to pull that off just yet. The display itself is expected to gain newer LTPO+ technology, which should help squeeze out a bit more battery efficiency without you even noticing the difference.

iPhone 18 Pro camera

Apple is reportedly testing a variable-aperture main camera, letting the lens physically adjust how much light it lets in, something that could genuinely help in tricky lighting and give photographers real control over depth of field. There's also talk of a larger-aperture telephoto lens and a new stacked image sensor aimed at improving dynamic range and reducing noise, plus whispers of a teleconverter accessory that could work alongside the new camera hardware, though details here remain fuzzy.

Zoom could also become a talking point between the two models. The Pro Max may get a longer 6x optical zoom, while the smaller Pro sticks with 5x. Both are expected to retain their triple 48-megapixel rear camera setup and the 18-megapixel Center Stage front camera, alongside further tweaks to the still-polarising Camera Control button.

A20 Pro Chip

Under the hood, the star of this generation is almost certainly the new A20 Pro chip, expected to be Apple's first built on TSMC's 2nm process. Leaks suggest it could be up to 18 per cent faster and 30 per cent more power-efficient than the A19, numbers that sound almost too good on paper but would genuinely matter for anyone running heavy Apple Intelligence tasks or graphics-hungry games.

Apple may also be rethinking how it packages the chip internally, reportedly exploring a wafer-level Multi-Chip Module approach that brings RAM physically closer to the processor. The idea is to boost performance while freeing up precious internal space, the tech equivalent of rearranging furniture to make a small apartment feel bigger. More RAM is expected too, though exactly how much remains up for debate. Alongside the chip, Apple's next-generation C2 modem is also tipped to make an appearance, potentially bringing satellite connectivity into the mix for areas where regular cellular networks simply don't reach.

Better efficiency

Battery life looks like a genuine bright spot this year. Reports suggest the US iPhone 18 Pro Max could get a 5,567mAh battery, a solid jump from the 5,088mAh cell in the current iPhone 17 Pro Max, with the smaller Pro model expected to see a more modest bump. Paired with the A20 Pro's improved efficiency, this combination could translate into meaningfully longer battery life rather than just a bigger number on a spec sheet.

iPhone 18 Pro price

As always, more capability tends to come with a bigger price tag, and this year looks no different. Rising costs for memory and the new 2nm chip are reportedly pushing Apple toward a price increase. In India, the iPhone 18 Pro is currently expected to start around Rs. 1,39,900, up from Rs. 1,34,900 for the iPhone 17 Pro, with the 256GB variant possibly landing near Rs. 1,44,900. The iPhone 18 Pro Max could start somewhere between Rs. 1,54,900 and Rs. 1,59,900. Globally, some analysts are predicting increases of $200 to $300 depending on the model and storage you choose.

When Can You Actually Buy It?

Apple's September 9 event kicks off at 10 AM Pacific Time, which is 10:30 PM IST. If Apple follows its usual playbook, pre-orders should open later that same week, with the phones likely reaching customers around September 18.
