Adobe has introduced a new AI tool called Student Spaces within its PDF software, Adobe Acrobat. The feature is designed to help students study more efficiently by generating presentations, flashcards, and quizzes from materials such as PDFs and links uploaded to the platform.
Students can access the beta version of Student Spaces for free via the web, and the feature initially does not require a login.
How Student Spaces works
Students can upload over 100 files to the platform, including PDFs, Docs, PowerPoint, Excel, URLs, links, handwritten notes, and transcripts. Based on these inputs, Student Spaces can generate a wide range of study materials such as flashcards, quizzes, mind maps, videos, podcasts, and editable presentations. The platform leverages Adobe Express, its cloud-based content creation tool, to create these study materials.
The platform also features an AI-powered chatbot that allows students to ask questions and interact directly. The company says the AI’s responses are grounded in the content of the uploaded documents, helping reduce the chances of errors. It also revealed that the product has been tested with over 500 students, including groups from prestigious universities such as Harvard, Berkeley, and Brown.
Adobe Acrobat has largely targeted professionals. In January this year, the company launched PDF Spaces, a collaborative feature that allows multiple users to access and organise files and notes in one place. Similar to Student Spaces, it enables users to generate presentations from stored documents such as financial details, product plans, and competitor analysis using simple text prompts.
PDF Spaces has the ability to generate two-person AI podcasts from documents. Now, Adobe is extending the feature to the Student Spaces as well. These podcasts will allow users to listen to the topics they are studying.
Adobe’s Student Spaces is not the first tool aimed at simplifying studying. Platforms such as Google’s NotebookLM, Goodnotes, and Turbo AI already offer similar features, allowing users to upload documents and generate a variety of study materials. Adobe may have arrived slightly late with Student Spaces, as rival products like NotebookLM have been available since July 2023, Goodnotes since August 2023, and Turbo AI since 2024.
