The facelifted luxury limousine brings a series of design enhancements, a significantly upgraded technology suite and, most notably, the debut of a plug-in hybrid powertrain for the Indian market.
The new S-Class is currently available exclusively as the S 450e and can be booked from today. Customer deliveries are expected to begin around Diwali later this year.
Prices
- S 450e Launch Edition Exclusive Line: Rs 2.20 crore
- S 450e Manufaktur Edition AMG Line: Rs 2.38 crore
Compared to the outgoing model, which was priced from Rs 1.85 crore, the refreshed S-Class commands a premium of Rs 35 lakh at the entry level. Its primary rival remains the BMW 7 Series.
First-ever S-Class PHEV for India
Powering the S 450e is a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six petrol engine paired with an electric motor and a 22kWh battery pack. The combined output stands at 435bhp and 680Nm, with drive being sent to the rear wheels through a nine-speed automatic gearbox.
Mercedes-Benz claims the luxury sedan can travel up to 115km in pure electric mode, making it one of the longest-range plug-in hybrids currently on sale. The sprint from 0-100kph is completed in 5.7 seconds, while the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 20 minutes using a 60kW DC fast charger. Fuel efficiency is rated at 32.2kmpl under the WLTP cycle.
Globally, the facelifted S-Class is also offered with a mild-hybrid petrol powertrain, though that version has not been introduced in India.
Exterior design
While the overall silhouette remains familiar, Mercedes-Benz has introduced several visual tweaks to differentiate the facelifted model. Up front, the S-Class receives a larger grille featuring chrome-finished three-pointed star inserts, complemented by an optional illuminated surround.
The Digital Light LED headlamps now incorporate Mercedes' signature star-themed lighting graphics, while the redesigned tail-lamps feature illuminated star motifs and animated lighting sequences. A revised front bumper with larger air intake elements further enhances the sedan's road presence.
New alloy wheel designs and additional paint options have also been added, alongside an expanded Manufaktur personalisation programme.
Cabin gets more technology and comfort features
Inside, the 2026 S-Class adopts a revised dashboard layout with updated trim finishes and a more digitally focused cockpit. India continues to receive the long-wheelbase version, ensuring generous rear-seat accommodation.
Customers opting for the four-seat configuration can choose executive rear seats that recline up to 43.5 degrees. Ventilation, heating and massage functions are available across all seats.
Mercedes-Benz says additional sound insulation has been introduced to further improve cabin refinement. The enhanced ambient lighting package now extends across multiple interior surfaces, including the dashboard, door panels, centre console, air vents, armrests and rear seating area.
New MBUX Superscreen headlines feature list
A major highlight of the facelift is the introduction of Mercedes-Benz's latest MBUX Superscreen setup. The system combines a 14.4-inch OLED central touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a dedicated 12.3-inch passenger display.
Running on the brand's latest MB.OS software architecture, the infotainment system benefits from deeper AI integration through the MBUX virtual assistant. Navigation functionality has also been enhanced with Google Maps integration for the augmented-reality head-up display.
Rear occupants are catered to with dual 13.1-inch entertainment screens that support streaming services, gaming applications and video conferencing. Other notable equipment includes a Burmester 4D surround sound system, wireless smartphone connectivity, connected-car functions and four-zone climate control.
Advanced safety and chassis technology
The luxury sedan comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of driver assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring and a 360-degree camera system.
Mercedes-Benz has also equipped the S-Class with its E-Active Body Control suspension setup, which continuously adapts damping characteristics based on road conditions. Rear-wheel steering is offered as well, helping improve manoeuvrability despite the car's substantial dimensions.
With the introduction of a long-range plug-in hybrid powertrain and a host of technology upgrades, the 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class aims to strengthen its position at the pinnacle of the luxury sedan segment in India.
