The Surprise and Shine Apple event is over. While the iPhone Duo may have grabbed your attention, there was a lot more that the company announced, including the new Watch Series 12 and the Watch Ultra 4. The AirPods 5 was also revealed.
Apple has made a bunch of improvements across all three devices, with a focus on Apple Intelligence features and better user experience. Let’s delve right in.
Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4
For the Watch Series 12 and Watch Ultra 4, Apple is using a new S11 chip, which it says, is its most powerful wearable chip. Apple is improving heart rate monitoring in the Apple Watch 12 and the Watch Ultra 4. It will now measure heart rate at every 5 seconds.
The Apple Watch Series 12 is available in two sizes – 42mm and 46mm sizes. The wearable comes with a new Health Sensing System and much more frequent HRV tracking.
Apple is also introducing a new readiness score, a 0-10 daily rating that looks at activity, training load, vitals and sleep score, then suggests whether users should recover, pace themselves, stay ready or go for it. The watch also gets updated daytime and overnight vitals, a new Steps complication, and a redesigned pedometer system that Apple says improves step and indoor distance tracking.
The Watch Series 12 keeps up to 24 hours of everyday battery life, but Apple says outdoor workout battery life now reaches up to 10 hours, 25 per cent more than before. A 15-minute charge adds up to 12 hours of battery life. The watch comes in new aluminium, titanium and ceramic finishes, with tougher Ceramic Shield 2 on aluminium models. Apple is also offering new bands and updated Hermes options.
The Apple Watch Ultra 4 takes the same core health platform and pushes it towards endurance and adventure users. It uses the Health Sensing System and S11 chip for the same heart-rate, HRV, readiness, vitals and step-tracking upgrades, but adds longer battery life and more serious workout stamina. Apple says Ultra 4 lasts up to 50 hours in everyday use, up to 84 hours in Low Power Mode, up to 25 hours with full GPS and heart-rate tracking in Extended Workout mode, and up to 45 hours in Max Extended Workout mode. It is available in natural and black titanium, alongside refreshed Trail Loop, Alpine Loop and Ocean Band colours, plus a new Hermes Ultra model.
Apple launches AirPods 5
The base AirPods also got an upgrade this time with the launch of the AirPods 5. Apple claims that the AirPods 5 offer the best active noise cancellation (ANC) in an open-ear design, cutting up to 50 per cent more noise than AirPods 4 with ANC. The company says that the earbuds also come with improved Transparency mode, Adaptive Audio and Conversation Awareness.
The AirPods 5 receive a multiport acoustic architecture and next-generation Adaptive EQ are meant to deliver fuller sound and better personalised spatial audio. For users with a supported iPhone – running on iOS 27, AirPods 5 also adds Siri AI support, head-gesture responses and Live Translation.
