In Short

  • Apple Intelligence is expected to roll out today
  • Apple will bring a few AI-powered features to iPhones
  • The eligible phones include, the iPhone 15 Pro models and iPhone 16 line-up

Apple Intelligence, introduced during WWDC 2024, is expected to launch today with the iOS 18.1 upgrade. The upcoming features are coming to a limited number of iPhones, including iPhone 15 Pro models and the iPhone 16 series. Last week, Apple confirmed that the company is aiming big for this week. Apple’s Grek Joswiak posted to X, stating, "Mac your calenders!", indicating several new announcements to come. Previously, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman predicted that iPhone users would get iOS 18.1 with Apple Intelligence on October 28. Reports suggest that the new iOS 18.1 will be rolled out in India at 10:30PM today.

Apple Intelligence: First roll out is coming

As per the reports, this week will witness the first rollout of Apple Intelligence features. This means that, if not all, a few selected features will come to iPhones today. And the others will be stretched over 2025. Here are a few features expected to come today.

Writing tools: Of course, there has to be a writing tool with Apple Intelligence. It will proofread texts for spelling and grammar errors, including word choice and sentence structure. It will also rewrite to clean up what you've written and shift the tone without impacting your content. Options include Friendly, Professional, and Concise.

Photos app will also get a boost: With just a simple description—like “My cat in 2024” or “Orlando in the summer”—you can create a Memory Movie. The feature will automatically select matching photos and background music, but you can customise it further by using Memory Mixes or setting a mood to shape the audio. Plus, when you’re creating the prompt, you have the option to add specific scenes and images you’d like featured in the memory.

Clean up tool: A new Clean up tool will allow you to choose unwanted elements in an image and use AI to remove them without affecting the main subject. The Android users must be aware of a similar tool, called Magic Eraser. Yes, it is exactly the same in the Apple verse.

New Siri UI: Apple is revamping the Siri from top to bottom. While the other features may not come in this update, a new UI will arrive this month. In the new UI, Siri is not only limited to shedding light in just one part, it will lit up all the edges. Other elements, which will actually use Apple Intelligence will arrive a little later.

Priority notification: Apple Intelligence will be able to analyse your iPhone notifications and prioritise the most important ones, which will appear at the top in a new Priority Notifications section. Longer notifications or groups of multiple notifications will be summarised as well. This feature will also integrate with Focus Modes, minimising interruptions by ensuring that only crucial and relevant notifications are delivered.

But Indians might have to wait longer

Apple’s new Apple Intelligence feature, which brings advanced AI capabilities to iOS devices, is expected to launch in India in 2025. Initially, the system will support Indian English and be part of updates for iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS 15.1 on compatible devices. This release will follow the US English version scheduled for late 2024.

While there is currently no confirmed date for localised language options beyond Indian English, Apple has indicated that broader language support will be phased in over time. This release is anticipated to bring features like the updated Siri, on-device AI tools, and multimedia editing functions to users in India, enhancing the experience with new contextual and personalisation options.
