MWC26 Shanghai to stage live Formula E showcase with 5G-connected Gen3 Evo car

MWC26 Shanghai has announced a live Formula E showcase for this year’s edition. The showcase puts electric racing and real-time connectivity at the centre stage, with notable speakers in attendance.
MWC26 Shanghai will take place from June 24 to June 26, 2026 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) in Shanghai, China.
The event will host Formula E live speakers in SNIEC’s Hall N4 through Circuit X in the Auto Smart Mobility Zone. Circuit X is a GSMA Foundry initiative that brings together technology partners to speed up mobile technology adoption in motorsport and improve fan experiences. Attendees will be able to use one of 10 Formula E simulators, with chances to win Formula E tickets and signed driver caps, and see a Formula E car up close on the eve of the 2026 Shanghai E-Prix.
The Formula E Gen3 Evo car will be fitted with a 5G modem and antenna, with live onboard camera footage streamed to demonstrate 5G connectivity in professional motorsport. Visitors will also be able to watch behind-the-scenes footage from the 2026 Sanya E-Prix, which will take place just before MWC26 Shanghai.
Sihan Bo Chen, Head of Greater China at GSMA, said in a statement, “Our Formula E showcase is a perfect example, demonstrating how connectivity can power high-performance environments where the stakes are high.”
Across keynotes and conference sessions, several global technology and industry leaders will take to the stage, including Alexander Antukh, CISO at AboitizPower, Zhihui Peng, Co-founder and CTO at AGIBOT, Jun Ni, Chief Manufacturing Officer and Co-President of Engineering, Manufacturing and R&D System and SVP at Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited, Cathy Hackl, CEO at Future Dynamics, Carl Cruz, President and CEO at Globe Telecom, Lina Bariah, Lead AI Scientist at Khalifa University of Science, Research and Technology, Dr. Zina Cinker, Condensed Matter Physicist and Director General at Matter Group, Dr. John Smee, SVP of Engineering at Qualcomm, Nicholas Hansen, Head of Automation Systems, Strategy, Product and Digitalization, Factory Automation at Siemens China, Keith Leong, Chief Customer Officer at Singtel Enterprise, Luciana Wiedengren, Chief Legal Officer at Telenor, and Bhupinder Singh, President at Vodafone Asia.
Additionally, MWC Shanghai will host the Humanoid Robot Football Penalties Challenge, a three-day penalty-based robotics competition featuring teams from around the world. The challenge will showcase real-time AI and connectivity in humanoid machines.
Humanoid robots will also perform dance and music, with entries closing on 31 May 2026. The 4YFN Zone will return with startups, founders, investors and corporate innovators from China and other markets. Mobile World Capital Barcelona will take part with startups from its Collider Programme in healthcare and energy, including Cooling Photonics and OneCare AI.
