Is rain coming? Duststorm to hit Delhi-NCR. Here's what to expect

The past few weeks have been very hot and dry in Delhi-NCR with daytime temperatures often crossing 37-40ºC, with some places feeling even hotter. Relief is on the way but will only arrive at these selected places.

In Short

  • Daytime temperatures to reach 37-39ºC; nights around 25-27ºC
  • Similar weather with light rain, gusty winds may continue till May 14
  • These changes offer brief relief before full monsoon arrives

A mild dust storm and light rain are expected to hit parts of Delhi-NCR today, May 11, 2026.

The quick shift will bring some relief from the hot and dry days the city has seen recently, but also some regions will miss out on the cold respite.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a dust storm followed by brief light showers could arrive in some areas today.

The sky will be partly cloudy, with a chance of thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds later in the day or evening.

Furthermore, daytime temperatures are likely to soar, reaching up to 37-39°C, while nights will stay around 25–27°C. Adding to that would be strong winds that may blow at 30–50 kmph at times.

WHERE WILL IT RAIN?

Gurugram and southern parts of Delhi are most likely to get the dust storm and mild rain.

Meanwhile, other parts of Delhi-NCR, including central and eastern Delhi, Faridabad, Noida, and Ghaziabad, will mostly stay dry. These areas may still feel dusty winds and gusts, but heavy rain is not expected everywhere.

The weather changes will be scattered but not as widespread as other weather changes have been throughout May.

The past few weeks have been very hot and dry in Delhi-NCR with daytime temperatures often crossing 37-40°C, with some places feeling even hotter.

Clear skies and dry winds have made the heat feel stronger, increasing discomfort for people and raising power demand for cooling.

Residents have been hoping for a break from this summer-like weather and, it seems, some might get it, while some might not.

HOW'S THE WEATHER IN COMING DAYS?

The IMD says similar light rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds can occur until around May 14, especially in the afternoons or evenings.

Temperatures may cool slightly to 35–38°C in the coming days before rising again.

This weather pattern is common before the full monsoon arrives, bringing short bursts of rain and wind that offer temporary relief but also cause dust and minor disruptions.

While these mild showers might help cool things down a bit, more such changes are likely as the season moves forward.
