Maruti Suzuki has revealed the price of the WagonR Flex Fuel at Rs 7.24 lakh (ex-showroom), making it India's first E100-compatible passenger car and a significant step towards ethanol-powered mobility.
by Saumya Shubham Jha · India TodayMaruti Suzuki has announced the price of the WagonR flex fuel at Rs 7.24 lakh (ex-showroom), making it India's first passenger vehicle capable of running on 100 per cent ethanol (E100). The development marks a significant step in the country's alternative fuel journey and aligns with the government's efforts to reduce dependence on imported crude oil through greater ethanol adoption.
The WagonR Flex Fuel was first unveiled in its production-spec form on June 4, 2026. The vehicle was showcased by Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri.
Based on the top-spec WagonR ZXi+ 1.2-litre petrol manual variant, the flex-fuel model has been developed to support a wide range of ethanol-petrol blends. While Maruti Suzuki has confirmed E100 compatibility, detailed technical specifications of the flex-fuel system have not yet been disclosed.
The launch comes shortly after the government expanded the regulatory framework for higher ethanol blends. In May, fuel standards for E22, E25, E27 and E30 petrol were officially notified, creating a pathway for the next phase of India's ethanol blending programme.
Exterior design
Visually, the WagonR Flex Fuel remains almost identical to the standard E20-compatible WagonR. The only distinguishing feature is a small "Flex Fuel" badge at the rear.
The hatchback retains its familiar tall-boy design, featuring a broad front grille, sweptback headlamps and a sculpted bumper. The boxy profile continues to prioritise cabin space and ease of ingress and egress, while the large glass area and tall roofline contribute to an airy cabin feel.
At the rear, the WagonR features vertically stacked tail lamps and an upright tailgate.
Interior design
Inside, there are no noticeable changes compared to the standard WagonR. The cabin continues with a dual-tone theme and features a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a four-speaker audio setup and steering-mounted controls.
Practicality remains one of the WagonR's key strengths, with the hatchback offering a generous 355-litre boot.
Powertrain
Powering the WagonR Flex Fuel is Maruti Suzuki's 1.2-litre four-cylinder K12N petrol engine, which has been specially modified to operate on higher ethanol blends. The vehicle can run on ethanol-petrol mixtures ranging from E20 up to E85, while also being engineered for E100 compatibility.
Maruti Suzuki has not yet revealed official power, torque or fuel-efficiency figures for the flex-fuel version.
With the WagonR Flex Fuel, Maruti Suzuki has taken the first step towards bringing commercially viable flex-fuel passenger vehicles to the Indian market.
