The Michelin Guide has announced its 2026 Michelin Key selection, recognising hotels that offer standout stays across the world.

Indian luxury hospitality is having a moment on the global stage. From grand palaces in Udaipur to boutique stays in Jaipur and immersive wildlife retreats, the country’s hospitality portfolio is increasingly making its mark on the global luxury map.

This year, 47 Indian hotels have been recognised in the Michelin Guide’s 2026 Michelin Key selection, including 30 One-Key hotels, 15 Two-Key hotels and two Three-Key hotels. What's with the one-key, two-key, three-key hotels? Hold, we'll come to that in a minute.

The Michelin Guide has recognised 2,832 hotels across 79 destinations worldwide in its 2026 selection. Globally, there are now 2,020 One-Key hotels, 657 Two-Key hotels and 155 Three-Key hotels.

What is a Michelin Key?

Think of it as the hotel world's answer to a Michelin Star. While the Michelin Guide has been making hotel recommendations for decades, the Michelin Keys were introduced in 2024 to highlight the properties that stand out for their exceptional stays.

Now, a hotel does not get a Key simply because it is expensive, has a palatial lobby or calls itself five-star. There's a rigorous process in place.

Michelin's anonymous inspectors look at five things: architecture and interior design, the quality and consistency of service, personality and character, value for the price, and the hotel's contribution to its setting or neighbourhood.

Then there are three levels of recognition. One Michelin Key means a "very special stay", Two Keys mean an "exceptional stay", and Three Keys are reserved for an "extraordinary stay".

And the system is not simply a luxury-price ladder. According to the official website, the Michelin selection spans different sizes, styles, settings and price points. The guide’s global hotel selection now features more than 9,400 hotels, including 2,832 properties awarded.

Three Keys

Taj Lake Palace, Udaipur, and Taj Falaknuma Palace, Hyderabad, have both retained their Three Michelin Keys status.

The Two-Key list includes several familiar names from India's luxury-hotel circuit.

In addition, Anantara Jewel Bagh Jaipur was featured in Michelin’s list of the ‘Most Affordable Key Hotels in the World’. A night’s stay at the opulent Jaipur property can start at around Rs 10,000, depending on the date and time of booking.

Since the last Michelin Key announcement in October 2025, more than 2,200 hotels have been added to the global selection, with Europe and Asia recording the highest number of new additions.

The Michelin Guide said it assessed hotels this time with greater attention to a property’s sense of place, design and overall guest experience, beyond just luxury and service.
