Five members of a family were killed after their car crashed into a stationary container truck in Maharashtra's Amravati district on Sunday afternoon.
The accident took place on the expressway when an Ignis car travelling at high speed rammed into the rear of a container parked on the roadside. The impact was so severe that the car was completely mangled, leaving all five occupants dead on the spot.
According to preliminary information, the family was travelling from Chandrapur to Akola to attend a private family function when the tragedy occurred.
The family members killed in the accident have been identified as Bhaskar Jivne (57), Mahadev Jivne (42), Aarti Jivne (40), Lata Jivne (43), and 12-year-old Krishna Jivne. All were residents of Chandrapur district.
Eyewitnesses said the car appeared to be moving at a high speed before crashing into the stationary container. The force of the collision left the passengers with no chance of survival.
After receiving information about the accident, police, highway security team and emergency rescue services rushed to the spot. The victims were pulled out of the wreckage and taken to nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
Police suspect the driver may have dozed off at the wheel, leading to the crash. However, the exact cause of the accident will be known only after a detailed investigation.
Traffic on the expressway was affected for some time following the accident. The damaged vehicle was later removed and traffic restored.
