In Short

  • Google Chat now allows users to send video messages for clearer and more flexible communication
  • The feature is available on the web but not yet for mobile recording
  • Video messages can be shared in DMs, group chats, and spaces across various Google Workspace plans

Google has introduced a new feature in Google Chat that lets users send video messages. This update is designed to make communication more flexible. Whether you're part of a sales team, an executive making company-wide announcements, or a team member sharing project updates, this feature can save time and provide clarity.

How to Use the Video Message Feature

--Sending a video message in Google Chat is simple. Here's how to do it:
--Open Google Chat and click on the compose box where you would normally type a message.
--Select the record button and choose “video message.”
--Record your message, and once you're done, you can preview it or re-record if necessary.
When you're happy with your video, just press send!

These video messages can be shared in direct messages (DMs), group chats, and spaces. You can interact with them just like you would with text messages—by quoting, reacting, or replying in a thread.

For now, you can record and send video messages on the web, but mobile users can only receive and view them. Google plans to expand these features to mobile devices in the future.

Who Can Access This Feature?

The video messaging feature will be available to several Google Workspace users. This includes:

--Business Starter, Standard, Plus
--Enterprise Standard, Plus
--Essentials Starter, Enterprise Essentials
--Nonprofits
--Frontline Starter, Standard

The rollout for this feature started on October 7, 2024, for Rapid Release domains and will be available for Scheduled Release domains from October 25, 2024. It might take up to 15 days for all users to see the feature in their Google Chat.

Video messages can't be recorded on certain systems like ChromeOS, Linux, and Firefox at the moment. However, Google is planning to add transcription services to the feature soon, which will make video messages even more useful by allowing users to read the message as well.

Google's new video messaging feature in Chat is all about convenience. It allows users to communicate more effectively, whether it's for business updates, team projects, or important announcements. With its gradual rollout, more people will soon have access to this feature, helping to streamline communication across teams and organizations.
