Volkswagen India has teased the updated Volkswagen Taigun ahead of its April 9 debut. The facelifted SUV will come with design tweaks, feature upgrades, and a new gearbox option for the midsize SUV.
by Saumya Shubham Jha · India TodayVolkswagen India has released the first official teaser of the updated Volkswagen Taigun, confirming its debut on April 9, 2026. The mid-size SUV is set to receive its first major update since its launch in 2021, bringing with it a refreshed design, feature enhancements, and a key mechanical upgrade.
The teaser hints at subtle exterior changes, including a redesigned front bumper and updated lighting elements. Spy shots further suggest a sharper, more contemporary look inspired by global models. The facelifted Taigun is expected to feature slimmer LED headlamps connected by a light bar, along with the possibility of an illuminated Volkswagen logo.
Other visual updates could include a revised grille and sportier bumpers, while at the rear, connected LED tail-lamps may receive a new lighting signature. A chunkier silver skid plate and reduced chrome usage are likely to lend the SUV a more rugged stance. The side profile is expected to remain largely unchanged, save for new alloy wheel designs.
Inside, the Taigun facelift is anticipated to offer a significant boost in technology and comfort. A larger touchscreen infotainment system and a fully digital instrument cluster—likely around 10.25 inches are expected to headline the upgrades. Volkswagen may also introduce new upholstery themes and trim finishes to enhance cabin appeal.
Feature additions could include powered and ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and improved air-conditioning performance with a variable-geometry compressor. There is also speculation about rear-seat massage functionality, although this remains unconfirmed.
Mechanically, the updated Taigun is expected to retain its existing turbo-petrol engine lineup. This includes a 1.0-litre TSI engine producing around 115bhp and 178Nm, and a 1.5-litre TSI unit delivering approximately 150bhp and 250Nm. However, a notable change could come in the transmission department, with the 1.0-litre variant likely to adopt a new 8-speed torque-converter automatic, replacing the current unit. The 1.5-litre engine is expected to continue with the 7-speed DSG gearbox.
In terms of positioning, prices are expected to see a marginal increase over the current range of Rs 11.42 lakh to Rs 19.18 lakh (ex-showroom). Upon launch, the Taigun facelift will continue to compete with established rivals such as the Tata Sierra, Renault Duster, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Skoda Kushaq and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.
