Jaguar Type 01 drives the iconic Monaco circuit
Jaguar has previewed its upcoming all-electric Type 01 grand tourer on Monaco's iconic street circuit, showcasing camouflaged prototypes and Formula E-derived technology ahead of the luxury EV's global debut.
by Saumya Shubham Jha · India TodayJaguar has offered the clearest glimpse yet of its upcoming all-electric grand tourer, the Jaguar Type 01, by taking heavily camouflaged prototypes to the legendary Monaco street circuit.
The British luxury marque showcased the new four-door GT around iconic sections of the Monte Carlo circuit, including Sainte-Dvote, Casino Square and La Rascasse, underlining the performance-focused character of the brand’s next-generation EV. The prototypes appeared in a dramatic camouflage wrap featuring Jaguar’s new “strikethrough” design motif paired with bold linear and circular graphics finished in vibrant colours.
The Monaco appearance also marks Jaguar’s transition into a new electric era, with the company confirming that the Type 01 will become the first model of its reinvented future lineup. The naming strategy blends the brand’s heritage with its electrified ambitions. While “Type” revives one of Jaguar’s most iconic naming conventions, the “0” signifies zero tailpipe emissions and the “1” highlights its position as the first model of the company’s new-generation EV family.
Jaguar says the Type 01 draws heavily from technology developed through its Formula E programme, particularly from the championship-winning Jaguar TCS Racing team. According to the company, the EV’s development has benefited from learnings related to all-wheel-drive control software, fast-switching silicon carbide-powered inverters and advanced regenerative braking systems.
The British carmaker claims these systems will help deliver more instinctive responses, enhanced efficiency and improved fast-charging capability while also ensuring the Type 01 maintains the balance between high performance and luxury comfort expected from a modern Jaguar GT.
Rawdon Glover, Managing Director of Jaguar, said, “To achieve our vision for Type 01, we not only harnessed our Formula E know-how but also embedded the competition mindset of Jaguar TCS Racing in our engineering teams. This helped us develop innovative solutions for our luxury four-door GT that drives like no other electric car.”
Although Jaguar has not yet revealed the production-ready design, previous spy shots and official teasers suggest the Type 01 will adopt dramatic proportions, including a long bonnet, a sweeping coupe-like roofline and sharply upright front and rear styling elements.
The upcoming EV will be based on Jaguar’s new Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA), a dedicated platform developed specifically for the brand’s future electric models. Performance is expected to be a major highlight, with reports indicating a tri-motor powertrain producing close to 1,000bhp and over 1,300Nm of torque.
Jaguar is also expected to equip the Type 01 with advanced air suspension and twin-valve active dampers aimed at delivering a blend of dynamic handling and refined ride comfort. The luxury GT is claimed to offer a WLTP-certified driving range of up to 700km, positioning it among the longest-range premium EVs expected in the segment.
The Type 01 name also revives a storied tradition within Jaguar’s history. The “Type” designation first appeared on the Le Mans-winning C-Type in 1951 and later became synonymous with iconic models such as the Jaguar E-Type, D-Type and the recently discontinued F-Type.
Jaguar says the production-ready Type 01 will make its full global debut later in 2026 and will establish the design, technology and driving philosophy that future Jaguar models will follow.
