Maruti Suzuki Dzire leads, Mahindra Scorpio beats Hyundai Creta in May 2026
Maruti Suzuki as usual dominated the Indian passenger vehicle market in May 2026, with the Dzire topping the sales charts. The month also saw the Mahindra Scorpio outsell the Hyundai Creta, reshuffling SUV rankings.

The compact sedan registered sales of 24,546 units during the month, comfortably leading the charts ahead of SUVs and hatchbacks.
Maruti Suzuki continued its dominance in the sales rankings, occupying six of the top ten positions. The Fronx secured the second spot with 20,686 units, while the Ertiga MPV followed closely in third place with 20,350 units sold.
Among Tata Motors' offerings, the Punch remained a strong performer, recording sales of 20,208 units to finish fourth. The Tata Nexon rounded off the top five with 19,100 units.
Maruti Suzuki's Baleno premium hatchback and WagonR hatchback occupied the sixth and seventh positions with sales of 18,396 units and 18,076 units, respectively. The Swift continued its strong run as well, registering 17,519 units and securing the eighth position.
A notable highlight of May 2026 was the performance of the Mahindra Scorpio. The SUV posted sales of 15,774 units, allowing it to overtake the Hyundai Creta and emerge as the ninth best-selling vehicle in the country. The Creta slipped to the tenth spot with sales of 15,253 units.
