Qualcomm launches Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, fastest chip for Android phones with agentic AI tech

Qualcomm has launched the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6. The new 2nm chips bring faster on-device AI, along with upgrades for gaming, cameras and connectivity, to the next generation of premium Android phones.

Qualcomm has unveiled its new generation of flagship mobile platforms, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6. Both new chips are designed to deliver faster performance and more advanced on-device AI to the next generation of premium Android smartphones. The chips were announced at the Snapdragon Summit in Maui on September 23, 2026, with Qualcomm positioning them at the centre of what it calls the agentic AI era.

Both new Snapdragon platforms are built on a 2nm process and combine Qualcomm's custom Oryon CPU, Adreno GPU and Hexagon NPU. Qualcomm says the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 is its most powerful mobile platform, while the regular Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 brings many of the same capabilities to a broader range of premium smartphones.

Agentic AI takes centre stage with new Snapdragon processors

Qualcomm is putting a major focus on agentic AI with its new Snapdragon platforms. The company says the chips are designed to enable everyday AI agents that can deliver faster, more personalised and adaptive experiences based on users' needs throughout the day. According to Qualcomm, the goal is to make AI on phones more context-aware and useful, rather than simply responding to individual commands.

Inside Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 is the more powerful of the two new chips and comes with several upgrades focused on gaming, AI and cameras. For gaming, Qualcomm's new Adreno Neural Fusion uses AI to improve graphics and visuals, while also helping phones deliver longer gaming sessions.

For cameras, the chip supports Advanced Professional Video (APV) and Intelligent Pixel Control. Qualcomm says these features can help the phone better understand a scene, improve image quality and produce more natural-looking photos and videos.

The Extreme Gen 6 also has a CPU that can reach 5.0GHz, which Qualcomm calls the world's fastest mobile CPU. The chip combines this CPU with a new Adreno GPU and Hexagon NPU to handle demanding AI, gaming and camera tasks.

What phones will support the new Snapdragon chips?

Qualcomm says the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 will debut in flagship smartphones from HONOR, iQOO, Motorola, OnePlus, OPPO, REDMI, RedMagic, vivo and Xiaomi. The company has not specified the exact phone models in the announcement.
