Mahindra Scorpio Pikup to make global debut today: All you need to know

Mahindra will unveil the production-spec Scorpio Pikup today, August 14. Based on the Scorpio N, the lifestyle pickup promises rugged capability, premium features and 4WD to challenge rivals.

Mahindra is set to unveil the production version of the much-awaited Scorpio Pikup today, August 14, marking the global debut of its new lifestyle pickup truck. The model is based on the Scorpio-N and is expected to take on established players such as the Toyota Hilux in the premium pickup segment.

The Scorpio Pikup traces its roots to the Global Pik Up concept showcased by Mahindra in 2023. Ahead of the debut, the company released a 40-second teaser that offers the first official glimpse of the production-spec pickup, revealing its exterior design, cabin layout and several key features.

Mahindra Scorpio Pikup design

Unlike a simple pickup derivative of the Scorpio N, the Scorpio Pikup gets a distinct design while retaining some of the SUV's visual DNA. The teaser shows a double-cab body with a large cargo bed at the rear, giving it a more substantial stance than the Scorpio N.

At the front, the pickup gets slim LED headlamps flanked by L-shaped LED daytime running lights. The upright grille features a hexagonal pattern and Mahindra's logo, while the bumper houses vertically stacked LED fog lamps. A camera positioned below the logo suggests that a 360-degree camera could be offered.

The rear features C-shaped LED tail-lights and large Mahindra lettering across the tailgate. The teaser also reveals newly designed alloy wheels and the pickup's extended proportions, with a sizeable load bed positioned behind the passenger cabin.

Premium interior with plenty of technology

The Scorpio Pikup's cabin appears considerably more premium than traditional utility-focused pickups. The dashboard gets a large portrait-oriented touchscreen infotainment system, along with a digital instrument cluster and a three-spoke steering wheel.

The teaser also reveals rotary controls for the dual-zone climate control system and a dedicated drive-mode selector. The production model is expected to share several features with the Scorpio N, including wireless smartphone connectivity, wireless charging, ventilated seats, powered front seats and driver drowsiness detection.

Level 2 ADAS could also be offered, giving the Scorpio Pikup a technology advantage over several conventional lifestyle pickups.

Scorpio Pikup platform and dimensions

Under the skin, the Scorpio Pikup will use the Scorpio N's platform. However, Mahindra has stretched the wheelbase to accommodate the larger cargo bed and give the pickup its own proportions.

The longer wheelbase is expected to be one of the key differences between the SUV and its pickup sibling. While Mahindra has not yet revealed the final dimensions, the production version is expected to retain a double-cab configuration.

A more utilitarian version could also be introduced later for commercial applications, although Mahindra is yet to confirm details.

Diesel engine, automatic gearbox and 4WD

Mahindra has not revealed the complete powertrain specifications yet, but the Scorpio Pikup is expected to use the company's mHawk diesel engine. It is likely to be offered with six-speed manual and six-speed automatic gearbox options.

Four-wheel drive is expected to be one of the pickup's key highlights. Mahindra had previously indicated that the model would get selectable drive modes, including Normal, Grass-Gravel-Snow, Mud-Rut and Sand.

These modes, combined with 4WD, should allow the Scorpio Pikup to balance everyday road use with off-road capability.

Mahindra Scorpio Pikup rivals

The Scorpio Pikup will enter the lifestyle pickup segment, where the Toyota Hilux is currently one of the most established options. Mahindra's new pickup is expected to compete with the Hilux by combining a rugged 4WD package with a more feature-rich cabin and technology-focused equipment list.

Its Scorpio N underpinnings could also give Mahindra an advantage by allowing the pickup to retain the SUV's off-road character while adding the practicality of a large cargo bed.

Scorpio Pikup global debut today

Mahindra will officially unveil the production-spec Scorpio Pikup globally on August 14. The debut is expected to reveal the pickup's final specifications, dimensions, engine and transmission options, variants and market availability.
